Question Answers to:Problems with newer PHM's/2.209 & new security devices

I'm looking to purchase hoster but have grown concerned with the recent postings relating to the following issues:
  1. Audio problems with new PHM's
  2. Security devices being used by CD+G company's preventing hoster from using them or making it extremey difficult.
I have waited to see MTU's response in how or what they can do about it but haven't seen anything. This company's apparently have found a way to make a KJ's transition to computer difficult and probably only turn up the pressure in the near future. I'm willing to purchase the program if I know MTU has a solution to this potentially serious problem. Thanks, Bob

MTU support is currently working on the problem with the newer PHM's. So unles you have a huge ratio of these disc you will be delighted with the program otherwise. As far as disc with the security feature making them unusable, these are only the Media clog CD's from Sound Choice, which are also a very very small percentage of the sound choice collection as they had to stop using this security measure. The media clog CD's are clearly marked with the Media Clog name and logo on the disc, so you can review your collection and see how big this impact will be to your situation. Personally I only have three disc in nearly 1300 that are effected. As for the Hoster program, you simply can't do better! Life as you know it as a KJ will be changed for ever once you make this step. You'll have more time to interact with your crowd, and you'll find the job of doing shows much more pleasurable. The new search engine features nearly eliminated the need for song books, as you can locate songs in seconds!

Re: Answers to:Problems with newer PHM's/2.209 & new security devices

Fixing a bug like this with the PHM songs requires getting example songs/discs (which we have), duplicating the problem (which I believe we have), and then debugging the code while playing the problem songs. The latter has not yet been done.

However, we have had 4-5 similar problems in the past with Madonna songs, Nutech, Pioneer, Nikkodo and another disc. It is not a concern to us, just a matter of clearing out other work before we attack this. We will solve it in Hoster 2.214. There are a lot of other features we are adding into 2.214 promised before the PHM problem was discovered.

During a development, the code is often "broken" and not shippable until the features are added and debugged. We are doing 2 other fixes in the CDGPlayer.lib code where the PHM problem will be fixed. If... we can get the fix done along with other new features already underway to a state it is not broken, we may do an interim release to get the PHM out. It all depends on how things come together. I am currently hoping to have 2.214 out by the end of September, as you can see at the News Page.

For me (and please don't take this wrong), I'd hope that a problem that affects the audio quality (since that's 99% of what karaoke is) would take precedence over a "feature" in the software, when it comes to enhancing or fixing Hoster.

I also realize that not everyone is having this problem, which I'm sure bumps the PHM issue down the priority list.

I just hate to see these PHM issues reflect badly on Hoster when I do a show. I try to explain to my singers, and other KJ's that come to our shows that it's a fantastic program, and then we get a PHM request for "I Love This Bar"............

Hoster is a great program, and I'm sure this issue won't be an issue in a couple of months, so don't let it stop you from taking the next step.

I Have Had No Problems With PHMs, Although i do not use the newer ones. as far as hoster is concerned BUY IT, You wont believe how good it gets, my biggest problem now is finding somthing to do during the show, singers stand and watch me add singers to my list, They can't get over it. Best program on the market by a very wide margin. ease of use and a great sound.BOB also sesurity is not a problem to worry about

The Hoster program is a great program, I just replaced all my newer PHM cd's with other brands at the cost of about $210.00. Will not use PHM anymore the program is worth the change. Was tired of switching back and forth from computer to disk. PHM do not have as good sound as some of the new disks I purchased anyway. The guitars really sound like guitars now.
