Audio auto-muted???

Ok Guys and Gals, here's a new one.

Let me give some quick background first. Have been using Hosterand MTU's laptop now since Jan of 2003. 3 to 4 times a week. NO problems. Nothing else but Hoster and Micro Studio, Excell, & Word on the computer. Computer is used for nothing but shows. Only time it goes on line is to update windows (XP Pro) and Hoster updates.

Last night after about 1 hour into show everything was fine and the next song started but no audio was coming out. I first thought the problem was with my Mackie system. Checked and double checked. No problem there. Then realized by unplugging the audio cable to the laptop would have saved me that amount of time; unplugged from the laptop and found that no audio was coming from the computer. Not having this happened before I decided to shut down and reboot. Came back up and still could not get any audio. I then went into control panel and looked at audio settings. The MUTE box was checked. I unchecked it and everything was then back to working order.

How,...could the mute box get checked by itself? Like I said, this has never happened before. Just curious if anyone else has encountered this and whether the root cause is a windows error or induced by Hoster.

This is a separate thread, not associated with the video that you posted under. Maybe someone will answer you here.

All I can say is that Windows CAN do unexpected things. I think you did an excellent job of diagnosing and recovering. There are relatively few things that can mute the audio stream, and what you did would be my first guess.

I had this happen one time like you, and I just about pulled out all my hair before I discovered the problem. I have no explaination for why it would have done this, but it did. I was ready to throw my sound card in the garbage when I discovered it. just one of those things that make you go Hmmmmm? My only explanation is maybe there's an alternate sequence of key strokes, control or alt something that can produce this result by accident. Glad you recovered quickly. I think it's human nature to go for the hardest fix first.

Thanks. Just glad to know it wasn't just me. Like you said I'll at least know what to check next time. I think yuou may be right; it has to be some sequence of key strokes.
