I have the same problem with my laptop, and the offset does work. for me.

I don't think it is a ram problem because I am running 512 mg and it does that. I am beginning to think it is a laptop problem as laptop drives run at 4200 rpm where desktop computers are 5600 and 7200.

The laptop I am having a problem with is a compaq presario 900 with a 1.7gig xp processor it shouldnt have a problem.

Question Video Card

Can you tell us the video card you're using?

I had this problem with an ATI card with Micro and Hoster demo when using the latest driver on the ATI site.

My card is the 7000 series.

here is a little tip............get rid of the external hard drive and put an additional hard drive in your computer.

external hard drives are for backing up as far as im concerned.

you can pick up a 160gb hard drive on ebay for about a $100.00 i have bought many for that price.

theres no substitute for an internal hard drive !!!

just my .02

An external HD is identical to an internal exept for the casing.
You can get a 160gig drive ($100.00) with a USB 2 casing ($50.00) that will give you the same performance of an internal drive because it's the same!!

No, IDE and USB are not identical, especially if talking USB 1.1, which has been quite troublesome and very limited.

USB 2.0 holds promise, but according to some KNOWLEDGABLE sources, still falls short of an IDE drive when it comes to high speed data transfer.

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...52431%2C00.asp

I'm getting one along with Norton Clone for back up purposes, but not until I replace USB 1.1 with 2.0. I believe the jury is still out as far as making USB the primary operating drive.

why are you guys telling him this about the hard drive
all of you have been around for a while now and you should know by now that there is a good chance that this is a video card problem or driver

or a set up prblem

and if it usb 2.0 or higher there is a 99.9% chance that the hard drive is working ok

we have been using the slow hard drive in the hoster laptop with no problem from day one
but we still need to know what video card you have

have a good one mike

Hello,
I seem to remember some time back MTU advised us all to use hard drives with a 7200 spin,
I can't remember what it was in relation to but since then I have always specified a 7200 drive and had no problems. even using some cheap video cards in the past.
Regards from across the pond.

Beavis,
you seem to have missed the fact that he is running a "LAPTOP" Most will only accept 1 internal hard drive. and as of right now I think they are limited to 60 gig and 4200 rpm because of heat and size limitations.

A lot of laptops do not have a problems, and the drivers may be the issue. I am not shure. But I have the same problem here and the offset is the only way I can get mine close to being acceptable.

Question USB 2

Do you know if your Sony has USB 2.0?

Does your desktop have the USB 2.0? Maybe it's the reason it's not doing it?

How about saving a file in your Laptop's hard drive versus the external just for a test?

I would suggest you set your video card to 16 bits if you can.

I don't see any problems with the fact that your Maxtor is spinning at 5400 but you would need the USB 2 or Firewire to get the best performance.

Good Luck

i understand about the laptop thing but my point is, there is nothing like an internal hard drive.

i bet you i know the problem with his laptop. he said its a sony, so this means its one of his laptops he used for personal use. i bet it has had so many programs installed and uninstalled.

my suggestion is reformat the hard drive and start fresh. make sure you save your .kma's to your external hard drive.

AvalonDJ,
I am sorry to inform you but your Laptop is not close to the Specs needed to run Hoster.

1) Processor Speed is 695 mhz, the Min that Hoster Requires is 800mhz.

2) Your video that is built into the Laptop is the Intel 815 Chipset. Hoster requires a graphics card that must support Direct-X 9.0 or higher. For dual-display use, requires an ATI or equivalent dual-display card.

There is going to be no way to make it work correctly on this Laptop. You can try updating the drivers for your Intel 815 Graphics card from Intel's site, but I dont think this card has the power to run Hoster correctly.
