No Hoster Sound w/new Install

Greetings,
I am unable to get any Hoster sound when playing karaoke tracks on my laptop having a new installation of Hoster software.

I recently installed Hoster 5.34.01 and while I am able to get YouTube clips to play just fine I am not having any success with Hoster sound.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: No Hoster Sound w/new Install

Select Tools/ Audio Controls. Where it shows Playlist audio card is a dropdown arrow, if you have more than one show when you click that dropdown you need to select the one you want to use, normally speakers or headphone jack. But this depends on whether you normally use an external sound card.
Whichever you display as your Playlist sound card you should make the default play list card in Windows. To do that select the Black "Manage Audio Cards" button which will take you to Windows audio controls, select the "Playback" tab, then highlight the card you want as your default Hoster sound card, does it show as "Default device" ? if not then you should see a button at the bottom "Set Default" press Apply and OK.
Now double check that the Hoster's audio control is still showing Playlist audio card as the one you made the default then press OK.
Let us know if that fixes it for you.
If you use an external sound card like a usb one and you start Hoster without it connected you should be prompted with a warning that your sound card has changed, This can also happen if you are using an HDMI connection as the HDMI also passes sound so if you are using an HDMI connection for your external monitor but want your sound out via the speakers or headphone out it is a good idea while in the Windows sound settings to disable the HDMI audio, this will not affect the video signal.

Re: No Hoster Sound w/new Install

Roy,
My Windows version does not have a "Playback Tab" option available when I use the "Manage Audio Cards" feature.
(See attachement.)

I am trying to use an Indigo DJ pcmcia card.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Re: No Hoster Sound w/new Install

It's a long time since I used XP but if you go to the Audio Tab, in that dialog, at the top you should see "Sound Playback" default device with a drop down arrow, clicking on the dropdown arrow should show your "Indigo DJ pcmcia card" (providing it is connected at the time) select that so that it shows in the default device panel then press OK.
Now go back to Hoster's audio controls and under playlist audio card use that drop down arrow and you should see your indigo card select that so that it shows in the playback audio card window then press OK.

Now your indigo card apparently has 2 outputs (or 8 virtual tracks) one for headphone and one for main mix, so when selecting the defaults playback devices it may show 2 devices or more for indigo in the dropdowns, you must select the same for the windows default as in Hoster's default.

If your sound card uses "Asio" drivers then you may have trouble using it with Hoster as I tried that type at one time and could not get them to work right with Hoster.
Perhaps others can advise on this.

In your original post you stated "while I am able to get YouTube clips to play just fine I am not having any success with Hoster sound"

Do you mean your not getting any sound from any karaoke files or just the YouTube videos ?
If it's just the videos then it could be a Codec problem you need to install the K-Lite codec pac.

Do you mean your playing you tube clips through Hoster ?

If so are they downloaded first or streamed direct from Youtube ?

Only I have only ever been able to play Youtube clips by downloading file first.

Let us know if the above helps.

Re: No Hoster Sound w/new Install

Roy,
Thanks a ton for all of your help and prompt response support! You are awesome! I apologize if I am making you “rack your brains” because I do not have a more up-to-date configuration.

The good news is that the video portion of the Hoster session appears to be operating just fine—just lacking audio.

I am not at my computer right now, but plan to address your advice ASAP.

Thanks again.
Gwen

Re: No Hoster Sound w/new Install

Roy,
After un-installing and re-installing Indigo-DJ software I am now able to use the Indigo-DJ hardware and hear sound from a YouTube clip, played directly from the YouTube website, that is, using the sound system I have for "performance" karaoke configuration (amp, speakers, etc.).

The humming noise was corrected by replacing an incompatible power supply.

My remaining problem is that I can not hear any Hoster audio via my sound system used for performance karaoke. (Video appears to be fine.) Additionally, YouTube clips can not be heard via built-in PC speakers unless I remove the Indigo-DJ hardware from the PCMCIA slot.

I have attached all the set-up information I think might aid in troubleshooting this issue. My hope is that I do not have to abandon this effort and purchase another laptop to use for this single support need (that is, "back-up" Karaoke/Juke Box).

As always, any and all help greatly appreciated!

Best,
Gwen
