using kma's database without rebuilding the 2nd computer
While browsing in this forum, I noticed there's a lot of problems and complaint regarding database. Therefore, I would like to share some info regarding how to use the kma's database on your main computer to the 2nd computer(show) without rebuilding the database. First, the requirements is "both computer has the same version of hoster and database drive letter should be the same" . This is very useful for the people who add or edited their main database and use it for the 2nd computer (show). Remember, that everytime you did some changes or import songs on your main database and use it for the 2nd (show), you'll have to run rebuild database to work. This is how my system works, I have my main computer doing the import, editing and deleting songs in my 1 terrabyte external database (this is kma's and vcd (kmh) and then use "allwaysync software to sync my database to another 1 terrabyte external harddrive and use this for my 2nd (show) computer. The trick is to assign my main harddrive to "K" or higher letter (i don't use e,f g), so, i'm importing songs to a "K" drive (default). And when both harddrive is equally have the same songs and information, I connected the duplicate drive to my 2nd computer(show). Then i copy this files from my main computer and paste it in my 2nd computer (show) (c:\mtu\hoster\bucket.mdb, songs.mdb, songs_backup.mdb, temp_songs.mdb ) Once it's done< i'm ready to go. (same book id's). Fyi, I only use hoster for home family and friends entertainment, but i spent a lot of time importing and editing in hoster. Note: When my friends want my database, I advised them to get hoster and I do this procedure all the time. No need to spend 4 or 5 hours of rebuilding especially if you have 94,000's of kmas and 6000's of vcd. I hope this will give other people some ideas on database management.

Re: using kma's database without rebuilding the 2nd computer
yes....I have been doing this for years ...even on my fastest desktop computer it takes about an over one and a half hours to build the database...it's much easier to copy the files from a built database to my show laptop...like you say you must ensure the Hoster version & drive letter is the same

Re: using kma's database without rebuilding the 2nd computer
I've been using dropbox for quite some time now for a handful of tasks, mostly unrelated to karaoke. Dropbox doesn't seem to have too much benefit for the KJ since hoster chooses where various folders go and doesn't allow you to move certain ones. And dropbox only syncs files/folders within it's main folder.
However, this new (new to me) program, similar to dropbox, lets you choose which files to sync, regardless of where they are. Sounds like this would be perfect! What I've been doing, is doing all of my importing into one computer as well as any edits. Then copying the kma's, and rebuilding. Seems like with sugarsync, I will be able to just do it on one computer (using similar drive letter and version of hoster) and the second computer will be automatically updated with no effort! Anyone else tried? |
