Duplicate files and book id numbers

I've started a project to pick the best duplicate songs by editing and selecting what I believe to be the best to be. My problem is I don't want to change the book ID number as that number is the one my song books have in them for that song. I have a file of duplicates that are currently not in my library so they have no book id number yet. I use microstudio to view these files and compare them to the ones I have in Hoster. When I find a duplicate I like better the the one in Hoster, I want to switch them without changing the book id number. Can that be done?

I don't see a way of doing what you ask. At some point you will have to re-print your songbooks due to wear and tear so in the mean time import these songs and mark the existing ones in the edit screen as hide in song books. Then when you are finished adding all these new versions it will be ready to print the new book with only your preferred versions but the old ones will still be on the hard drive so if a regular singer asks for his songs by the old # they will still be available.

Re: Duplicate files and book id numbers

This is a follow-up to my posting. I was able to replace the zip file with a identical Zip file (zip file name) and Hoster accepted it. What this means is I took one zip file with a KMA file and just replaced the zip file with a different song but the same file name and new song has the old book id number. This works just fine. So if you find a bad file you can replace it with a good one by just replacing the zip file as long as the new zip file has the identical file name. I don't know if this would work on unzipped files but it probably would.

Re: Duplicate files and book id numbers

It might work with the new KMH files as then all you would have to do is change the name on the MP3 and CDG files to match. Those type would work, but I don't think it would work with KMA files since they are compressed and changed by Hoster.

Re: Duplicate files and book id numbers

You're right about KMA files. You can't replace them, Hoster has to do that. However, if you have a bad file, the problem is not with the kma file it is with the ziip (cdg or mp3) file so as long as the names are identical, you can replace defective or unfavorable files with new ones and still keep the book id number by just replacing the zip or cdg / mp3 files only. Just keep the names exactly the same.

Re: Duplicate files and book id numbers

There is software to change bookid numbers in kma files directly one file at a time or to renumber your entire library. It's not sold by MTU, so I can't mention it here.
