Up grading question.

I have the earlier verion of Hoster 3.312 or something like that.
I have been thinking of up-grading to the ver. 4.xxx.

My download time has long since expired.
I have it on Two laptops.

Will the new ver 4.xxx upgrade even if my old version may be corrupted? I don't kow that it is. but I won't be able to download the old version any more because time ran out.

Same question for microstudio will the new upgrade install as long as a version is loaded? In the process of changing computers over the years, I think I didn't get some of the components of Karaoke Suite 4 loaded on one of the computers, can this be copied from the Hard disk and loaded onto the second cmputer and then upgrade to the new Karaoke suite components?

Thanks for any help..

Phil

The only alternative is to buy a new full version 4.

For all the software if you have the previous version installed the Upgrade will install. Whether it works or not should not be a problem as long as you haven't uninstalled it. For some of the programs there is an earlier version available that can be installed to allow the upgrading.
You may run into some cases where the installation will not work. If so you will need to submit a Support Ticket to get those registrations reset.
None of the programs can be copied to the hard drive to work for upgrade or to run.
This is one of the reasons MTU recommends that you save a copy of the Setup files instead of installing by using the "Run."

I really should be in good shape for an up-grade. Hoster will work ok on either laptop. Sometimes they will act a little goofy and I just figured there is something wrong with a file somewhere. For instance one unit has Vista and one has XP pro.
The one with Vista will only let me import one customer CDG track to play and then it will crash on the 2nd try. It does this twice or three times and then it is OK until the next time it is run, then the same thing all over again.

The problem with the other "Suite" programs was that I saved them on an old desk computer which shot craps, then I upgraded to a new desk top unit. It is a 64 bit OS unit with sata drives.. I have the hard drives from the old machine but they are not SATA drives and the new machine is. I can't get into the directory on them when connected into this machine with the ribbon cable..

No real problem though, at least I can get the two notebooks up graded.
For copying disc's, I have GoldenHawk and it has always performed good for me.

Thanks for the advise Dale...

For both machines be sure you do the following changes before you install Hoster.
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/v...de-hoster4.htm
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/xp-changes.htm

For your Vista laptop it needs to have at least 2GB of memory. For XP you need to have 1GB. Both need video with 128MB+ to function best. Unfortunately many lower end laptops use "Shared" memory for video which can cause some problems that may have to be worked out, by stopping some of the unneeded processes that Windows likes to start.

As to the 64 bit OS Microstudio will not work correctly on that machine and I am not sure all the other Suite programs will either.

If you have Hoster 3.321, you will need to order the Upgrade to get a 4.0 Registration Code used to upgrade over your existing installation of 3.321.

Microstudio is the only MTU program that won't run on a 64-bit system. Microsoft totally changed the way optical drives are accessed on Windows [any version] 64.

To admin and Dale. Thanks for the info.

One more question from ADmin..

Both machines work now with 3.321. Minor problem once in awhile (trivial).

When I upgrade to 4.xx on these two, can I transfer to a new computer at a later time without having 3.321 on the new one?

My free download period ran out a couple of years ago for 3.321. I am sure I have the downloaded files somewhere.

Has the manual been re-written to explain this up-grade and transfer procedure?

This is just a hobby with me so I don't really get a lot of experience using it. I don't compete with KJ's, I go to their shows and sing their songs...
