vista lagging problem

A friend of mine recently decided to go digital and purchased a gateway ML6732 laptop with windows vista home premium with SP1 OS. The processor is an Intel dual cpu 1.86 ghz, has 3.0 gb ram. Sound card is sigma tel HD audio CODEC. He had Hoster lite 4.0.6.0 installed by another person.
Of course he is experiencing the lagging problem. (the graphics is behind the music). He asked me to help.

I made the changes to vista to make hoster 4 run correctly, but the lyrics still lag the audio. Is XP going to be the only remedy?

Are the settings for you computer monitor and your TV the same?

Try setting both of them them to 1024x768 - 16 bit and see if that helps.

Did you use the list from MTU to make the changes? http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/v...de-hoster4.htm

He may have something running in the background that is causing this, like an Anti-virus program or a service that isn't needed.

There is one other fix that isn't listed there that you can try.
Determine the amount of time the lag is. Close Hoster 4.06 and open Hoster 3.4 (file is located in C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster and named Hoster.34.exe).
Go to Tools\Playback Offset and change it using the + side since audio is lagging video. Close 3.4 and reopen 4.06 to test it.
This control has been added back into the next release.

One more thought, are you using the old player or the new player?

I use the old player.

Madjim - I tried setting both displays at 1024 x 768, same thing. DDouglas - I tried advancing the audio up to +2.5 and poor results. The problem is the lyrics and music seems to start out okay but gets progressively worse through some songs. Other songs play fine.

Have updated the driver for your video card?

Have you tried using the old player?

I switched from old to new player, advanced audio +2.5 in hoster 3.4 and checked video card update. Seems now all songs are in sync except one (Black Sheep on BMG). I'm hoping this is just a fluke. Thanks for the help.

I have just tried to look up this laptop on Gateway and could not find any specs on it. It isn't even listed on their site. My guess is like most laptops the video is using Shared rather than dedicated memory and this has caused problems for a lot of people.
Did you go through the list of items on the link I listed? There are a lot of things on it that if left on will slow the graphics down.
You said you changed the screen resolution. Did you set the colors to 16 bit instead of 32 bit (default)?
