Vista and XP What dont we need?
Been mulling this over, me I muddle my way through most things this one I need help.
When we buy PC's to run hoster what don't we need to run a show Karaoke and DJ? What I'm talking is, I've got paint in my pc do I need that. Will my show run without it? I have culled a lot of what I consider garbage for a KJ & DJ pc. I know enough to be very dangerous, but not enough to be safe. I am appealing to my knowledged bretheran to guide me. I notice a lot of problems concerning especially vista has to do with speed problems and I do know the less that pc has to do the easier it can handle hoster. Anyone ever make a list of what we don't need and still run hoster. I don't put my pc's online unless needed, I don't use paint, wordpad, notepad, ect. I use them for music. What the heck can be deleted and still have a good operating system for hoster?

It's not so important what is installed on your computer. What is more important is what is running in the background. Un-installing things like paint is still a good idea. It will save you hard drive space which can make a difference in the overall performance of the Window's swap file. It can also make a cleaner defrag. The biggie is services and unnecessary "helper" programs. These are the things to look out for.

They are supposed to come out with another SP for it soon to make it run "more like XP" and then in Jan 2010 they are going to release Windows 7. I would guess that means they will be dumping it next year. It was/is a total failure.

Thanks BillyO, maybe we can get these Vista machines usuable afterall. My Gateway only runs 2048 of RAM and does fairly well with what I had done before this discussion and I have freed up so much since it was started. Figuring I use it for backup, but have used it to make sure it can.
This little machine, has over 9000 mp3s and 9000 kma's on the hard drive. I am actually looking fwd to giving it a test drive the week after next. I rotate locations with my other KJs.
