Hoster 4.06 froze twice using laptop

Last night, my lower end laptop that has always played videos well with virtual dj and hoster, froze twice. I do have and need virtual dj minimized during the show, as I always have.

Also, I notice that when I move the cursor around in the playlist to a different song, that little hourglass comes up for a split second, almost like their is a real short waiting period before I should do anything else. Never noticed that before. The laptop is 1 gB memory ram and video card is 256 mB shared video ram, nVidea. Has anyone else noticed this very slight pause when relocating that blue line in the playlist.

The first freeze came up when I was sliding a song up on the playlist. I wondered if I was doing things too fast (interfering with that 1/2 second hourglass maybe). When hoster closed and I restarted, another set list appeared. It was one that I had previously loaded before the show on a second instance of hoster (was doing this to S+ a few ppl by digging up old playlists. But that screen was closed out when the show started. But that still was the playlist that came up when I restarted hoster after the freeze.

Second freeze occurred when I hit pause, waited a few seconds, and hit resume, hourglass came up and wouldn't go away. Upon restart, only part of the current playlist reopened. It was the first 10 singers that had already sung from that playlist. The playlist was much longer at the time of freeze-up. I think before the show I had opened and closed that instance by mistake with perhaps that 10 song playlist showing, somehow it remembered that list instead of what was on at the time of freeze up.

Any ideas?

Any comments?

What do ya think?

If it would have only been one freeze, I would have passed it off as a random nonre-occurring thing, but two in one night after years of having none at all seems odd.

Bryant, I am just chasing rainbows right now butt.....
Could you look at a registry value for me on the machine you are having trouble with? It is located in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

I have not had the trouble you are having in XP, but I have seen something similar in Vista. I am trying to narrow it down and need some data. I expect the value to be at 20mb, but it may be as high as 48mb.

What parameter under MemoryManagement are you looking at? XP has several.

Sorry, that should have been:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems\Windows

All I need is the 3 numbers at the middle of the string, but please just copy and paste the whole thing.

%SystemRoot%\system32\csrss.exe ObjectDirectory=\Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,512 Windows=On SubSystemType=Windows ServerDll=basesrv,1 ServerDll=winsrv:UserServerDllInitialization,3 ServerDll=winsrv:ConServerDllInitialization,2 ProfileControl=Off MaxRequestThreads=16

I would expect to see different values depending on your system ram.

Should be there, it's the reg for the desktop heap, but I really don't think that would be the problem with only 3 or 4 windows open and I don't think it would have waited all this time to manifest.

Hey Bryant

I know how you feel, what I started to do is save that list before I start anything, just incase.

1 gig Mem. may not be enough Hoster & VDJ running, you need 2 gig + for a smooth operation.

What's you're internal Drv Rpm?

Joe.....

Dale
Sorry to say it didn't but hoster 4.06 shut down on me tonight and when I started back up all that was there were songs that played.
this was on my show comp. the shutdown was due to me clicking on export in the singers DB by accident with a song playing opperator error .
