Virtual DJ Crashes Hoster

When running Virtual DJ 5.2pro (VDJ) to get the party started and having Hoster 4.05 ready, then at the end of playing a video in VDJ and bringing Hoster to the front and play a song Hoster always crashes. When disabling the video ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 in config VDJ there is no problem with Hoster.

Is there a fix that I can run both?

Stef,
I remember having this problem several years ago, and did finally figure out that the video HAS to be disabled. There is no workaround at all. Spent months on their forum looking into it, tried many other things I thought might have worked, but that turned out to be the only thing. The shortest short-cut I use is on the 1024 x 728 default pro skin from Lady Ccameron; that has a video tab in the upper left that you can click on as a disable/able switch. This is a little quicker than going to config and unchecking. Once in a while I forget, and oops, sure enough: Crasheroo!

However, I'm not sure if the new preferences in Hoster 4.0x that deal with "Hoster priority" may make a difference, I think not, but haven't tried anything with that yet. You may wanna check that out?

If you use SBDJ's slide show (a plugin he developed that's better than the VDJ's packaged slideshow that shows pictures w/o making them too wide/fat as the default one does), at random times even if you use the video deactivate switch in VDJ, the crash still happens.

He (SBDJ - 'Scott') said he was going to look into it as I told him it was sort of a bug left in his plug-in. But he hasn't got to it yet.

What skin do you use; do you use slideshows at all?

Keep in touch as you and my wife are the few that combine VDJ and Hoster at shows?

Sounds like both programs are trying to have Video be their priority. Can you select which video card to use in VDJ? Hoster doesn't have that capability, but if VDJ does yoou may be able to select a second card and use that output for VDJ and the default one for Hoster. Yoou would then need some way to switch between the outputs to go to the TV either through your mixer or a switch box.

Not many laptops come with two video cards, or PC's , do they? When using hoster and a song running, you CAN throw on a VDJ video on w/o issue however, as I think VDJ TAKES priority somehow, then retains it.

On a PC they can be added and for laptops you have USB externals. It was just a thought.

Yup, I see. I heard those usb external cards are a real bear to get right though. Some on VDJ tried and say they couldn't get the quality they should have gotten. lot of miscellaneous problems too.

Still much easier to click a tab.

Hi Stefan

I also use VDJ for my shows and found a workaround solution for this problem that I will share with you.

There are a lot of steps at first but no problem after you see the results.

1) Start VDJ and set up your video plugins
2) Minimize VDJ and drag it to the upper right corner.
3) Run your DJ/VJ show like normal.
4) Start Hoster program.
5) Minimize Hoster and drag it to the lower left corner.

When ready to start Hoster do the following;

A) In VDJ go to effects tab then click the Video effects button.
B) Select Sonique plugin, to the right you'll see a Slideshow Delay bar
C) Click on the squire and slide it all the way to the right.
D) Find the Transparency bar below.
E) Click on the squire and slide it all the way to the left.

6) Click on the plugin activate button until it turns black.
7) Then press Ctrl V to clear your screen, you will then see Hoster screen to run your show.

To Return To VDJ

1) Minimize Hoster to the task bar.
2) At VDJ press Ctrl V to reactivate the plugin.
3) Start your DJ/VJ show in VDJ.
3) Restore Hoster from the task bar.

When Ready To Return To Hoster Again.

1) Go to A), 6), 7) you should see your Hoster Screen.

This Works for me all the time.

Good Luck Joe.....

Wow, isn't it more simple to use just two steps "click on video tab button" to deactivate, then click on video tab button again anytime while hoster is say finishing a song, and a video pops in.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use Hoster to play the videos?

That's the problem it doesn't, I have many types of video files that I use with VDJ and they all work but won't play in Hoster.

Also the effects, looping and control plus the ability to use Hercules or other controlers makes it more easier to due a DJ/VJ show.

Joe, what types of your video files don't play in Hoster?

In Hoster 4.00-4.05 we are using WMP and it should play everything that can be played in Windows.

Do your files play in Hoster 3.40?

It uses our older "Video Player" code that we are considering switching back to.
