Installing Microstudio can disable other MTU products - Cause may be removing V2.611

Found out awhile ago Microstudio knocking out other MTU programs is happening early in the install shield process. The problem is in the uninstall part of the install shield.

When prompted if you want to uninstall the existing Microstudio and say yes, all the programs get uninstalled.

When reinstalling 2611 this afternoon, I stopped after uninstalling and checked the others. They were all uninstalled.

Hope this might help MTU narrow that down a bit.

Just did a bit more testing and have a workaround for those having the same problem.

Uninstall Microstudio manually.

DO NOT uninstall using the Control Panel as that uses the remove portion of the install shield to uninstall.

Delete Microstudio from the default folder.

Install the new program as UPGRADE.

No other programs were affected.

Worked well here.

George, we were aware that a "past" version being uninstalled was causing the damage to our other installed products. Thank you for diagnosing that it probably is 2.611.

We have just spent another $700 to buy "this years" version of the InstallShield developers program so we can try to overcome this problem. We don't yet know what it will allow us to do.

Eventually the older 2.611 versions should go out of use, and the problem should then disappear. As you well know, this has been one headache we could not program out no matter how much we tried.

Thank you for your post. I've made it "sticky" so others can continue to find it. We'll also add this to our Support Center Knowledge Base for those who look there first.

Today we discovered that for some time, Microstudio, and only Microstudio of all MTU Products, was able to trigger the Uninstaller of ALL prior Microstudio versions, not just the last version.

We suspect this may be part of the cause of damaging other MTU products at the same time. As George pointed out above, uninstalling V2.611 will damage other MTU products. Thus, doing a Remove in even the latest Microstudio 3.004 could trigger the 2.611 Uninstaller.

Version 3.100 only runs the Uninstaller for the past version with the same Installer code (GUID). We used to change this code with every major version, but learned this was not the best thing to do.

We hope Version 3.100 will not damage other MTU Products. However, since the problem is the prior version's Uninstaller already on your computer, until they are all removed this problem could still appear.

We STRONLY suggest you never install Version 2.611 again.
