Zip File Support?

Version 3.0 of Microstudio is supposed to support zip files although it does not recognize them when you select a "default folder" that contains them. In fact, the popup displays the statement that the folder "does not contain any .bin, .cdg, .kma, or .mp3(+g) files to play. No mention of zip files at all. In "Write Disc" and "Add Songs" the zip file extension does not appear in the "Files of type:" field. What's up with this?

It will import them as bin files to be written to a cd.

From the Microstudio manual:
"Karaoke Files shows Karaoke type KMA, BIN, CDG, MP3G and ZIP files with lyrics in the Default Folder on the hard drive. Adding these songs to the Play List and playing shows the Play Display with the lyrics highlighting to the music"

Definition of ZIP from the manual:
"These files must contain two files named the same with .MP3 (holding the audio) and .CDG (holding the lyrics) extensions"

From the Microstudio features list:
"Version 3.000 allows playing and writing tracks to Karaoke CDG or Audio CD format discs using any combination of these file formats: KMA, MP3+G, WMA+G, ZIP, BIN, MTU CDG, WMA, MP3 and WAV"

I'm not saying that the new Microstudio isn't a great program, I'm just wondering why it doesn't support zip files as advertised. Or if there may be something missing from my machine that is not permitting it to work properly.

When the files are written to drive using Karaoke CDG setting (button) the files are converted to standard CDG tracks. When the files are written using the Audio CD button the files are written as WMA tracks.

When any of these types of files are sent to the Playlist MS imports them and coverts them to BIN.

When you select the default folder you say you cannot see the ZIP files. Are you selecting Karaoke Files or Audio Files button? Should be Karaoke Files button.

Actually, when we import Karaoke CD Tracks, we create a BIN file now, no longer the MTU CDG format. There was too much confusion with the MP3+G (.mp3 + .cdg) format files.

Moundtown, you are absolutely correct.

This was a gross oversight on our part. We fully implemented the KMA "HDZIP" format files, but not the plain ZIP files.

We will have this in 3.001 before the end of November. We're sure there will be other mistakes we made, and we don't want to get a new release out too fast so we can incorporate all the changes.

Thank you for clearing this up. I'll be looking forward to the next update.

Microstudio 3 doesn't reconize Zips

Thanks for the info. I will upgrade when 3.001 is released. I have no problem with the diiferent formats, but it will make is easier for me as all my karaoke is in zip format. Having 10,000 songs just want to keep it that way it is if possible.
Thanks again,

I see version 3001 will now play zipped mp3+g's but it will still not create a disc from them as stated in the manual. Is this something that will be addressed in a future version?

It will not create a disc in zipped mp3+g format if that is what you mean, but it will create a disc from them in CDG format. I don't think MTU ever intended to be able to create discs in all the formats but to be able to convert all formats to CDG format for burning to disc.
