problem with 2 ext. drives

i have 2 ext. drives hooked up on my laptop..everytime i searched for a song which i know i have on one of my ext. dr. the song wont come up..i re-built the database on both drives. still wont come up..but if i take one of the hardrives and hook it up on my other laptop the song will come up....

Hoster will only see one of the drives.
check the path hoster is using??.
and hoster will see songs on that drive. Bob

I don't run Vista either, I've just heard the stories about how it hides files.

this might be a dumb question but everytime i import a song it goes into my g drive,,since its now almost full i imported the remaining songs on my h drive.. if hoster is only seeing one drive ( g ) how can i make hoster see the other drive drive ( h )

I'm reading this a little differently than others are I think, so just to clarify: You have one 1 library split up on 2 ext drives. OR is it 2 separate libraries.

Was it 1 rebuild that included both drives. NOT each drive rebuilt separately.
When you start the computer are you adding the drives in the same order each time? Start drive G wait for recognition and then start drive H. The computer will assign the letters each time based on the order they are plugged in/turned on.

Hoster will see any and every drive that Windows see's.

so if he builds database on drive H, i believe that is the only songs Hoster will see.

Billyo, you should get one large ext drive and that will end your problem.

Billyo, you should get one large ext drive and that will end your problem.

i have a bigger hardrive that is hooked up to my other laptop..and i have a lot of duplcates in it ..thats why i have those 2 other hardrives that i kinda sorted out without a lot of duplicates...

i rebuilt the hardrives separately, when i open hoster to rebuilt the database both hardrives are showing and im not sure of what you meant by 2 libraries..i rebuilt the g first and h second..

If both HD's (and the folders the KMA's are in) are showing in the build database screen then you are rebuilding both at the same time. If G is listed first then Hoster will build that one and then begin working on H, and vice-versa . Had you rebuilt them separately, G would have been built and then when you built H, the database for G would have been wiped out, since each rebuild replaces the previous one, they are not cumalative.

By library I mean 1 set of all the songs you use in your gig, which according to Bob is what you have just split between 2 drives.

When you rebuild the database a little progress counter will pop
up and tell you how many records it found. Is that number accurate?

that's right 1 set of all the song split between 2 drives, what i was doing was,when i open up hoster to rebuild my database both drives will show, i'll select both drives delete it and then select just one drive G drive,again to start the process rebuilding the database..then progress bar starts and it shows the # of songs updated, the total # of songs updated is accurate , (total # of songs on both g & h drive.plus the # of duplicate songs ) ..do i have to delete both drives before rebuilding the database or just select 1 and leave the other.. thanks for your continous help..

Hmmm... I'm sorry but I'm still confused. Correct me If I'm wrong but it sounds like you are building 1 drive and then deleting it and adding the next drive, and building it.

If both drives (KMA locations) are accurately listed on the screen you should not delete anything. Just click "build database"

If both drives (any and all KMA locations) are showing in the rebuild screen and the # of records is accurate (which is just a way of determining if all the locations are correctly listed) - when the build is done all of your songs should be in the database.

If by "select" you mean highlight one drive (KMA location) or the other, it's not necessary. Hoster will build the database from both drives in the same order they are listed on the screen regardless of whether either of them are highlighted or not.

It also sounds like you are expecting the database to reside on the individual drives? Microstudio works this way but Hoster does not. Hoster creates a single database of all the KMA locations and places it at C:/Program files/Micro Technology Unlimited/Hoster/Databases/Songs.mdb. Any other Hoster computer will have to have it's own database built.

If my confusion is way out in left field feel free to ignore.
