Drive lockup - Fixed by installing new firmware in the Drive

I've just upgraded to 3.310 and am having importing problems. Hoster recognizes my cd drive (external Plextor 48/24/48U).

After selecting the brand, DiscID and BookID, then clicking "import selected tracks" button, the cd drive spins up, the hourglass appears, but the tracks never appear to select for importing.

I have gone to "Add Track" on the Hoster main screen and encounter the same thing when trying to import a track from the external drive.I am using the same setup I have imported over 400 cdg's with before upgrading. Thanks

How clean is the disc? If it is very scratched and/or damaged in some way, it may take a long time to get data from it. Also, which Brand and DiscID have you selected. I can't imagine that this is related to these two fields, but it's worth considering,

To check if your autorun has been disabled go to this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\AutoRun

This is either "1" for enabled or "0" for disabled. Hoster's installation program should set this to "0" to disable autorun, as this feature has played havoc with CD Track import for years.

We haven't seen your answer yet on whether Autorun is disabled? This WILL slow down your drive recognition and its' becoming ready to import.

Also, scratched or badly manufactured discs will take a LONG time to import. I have talked to users who have SC discs that took 25 MINUTES PER TRACK to import into Hoster. In a case like this, it is best to make a duplicate copy of the disc in Microstudio and import that into Hoster. The duplicate, if you use MTU CDR Media (or other media that works well for CDG formats), will import tracks in fractions of a minute each.

We tested two laptop drives at MTU yesterday with 3.310. The test disc with 12 tracks was a copy made with Microstudio using MTU CDR Media. One drive took a bit over 14 secs/track, and the other a bit over 16 secs/track. That's around 3 minutes 30 seconds to import all 12 songs. I remember when getting all tracks in 15 minutes was excellent. We've come a long way with 3.310!

Yes, autorun is disabled, imported discs are in excellent condition. I have switched to using a Plextor PX-716, but disc recognition time is still rather slow, but the import times are musch faster, so really not much of a problem, just wanted to be sure something was not finctioning correctly.

I have a similiar problem.
Do the tracks "never appear" or are they just taking up to 90 seconds.

On this Old Drive you must Update the Firmware: http://www.plextor.com/english/suppo...firm_4824.html

It needs this update to work with the new Technology we are using in the latest version of Hoster.

Firmware update did the trick!

Is it normal for it to take 60-90 seconds for Hoster to recognize the cd in the drive and post the cd data? The import times are faster, but it takes 3 times as long to recognize the cd. Thanks

No this is not normal but it seems to occur with a few folks (well at least you and me). Both the drives/computers listed in my signature below take a good 55-70 sec before the first import can occur. I know of one person with the same drive as one of mine and he does not have this problem, so it's more than just the drive I believe. Maybe a combination of the drive and something else?
Just don't know what that something else might be yet!

And I might add I installed the latest firmware for both drives and it had no effect

Drive Lock-up

I am having the same problem. I have two plextors on two different systems that are locking up when you are trying to import CD tracks and choose to click on the Check FreeDB radio button. The stranger thing is my Lite-On DVDRW (SHW-160P6S firmware v PS01) will work fine!! The Plextors will cause an application hang if you look into your event viewer in Windows Computer Management console. Sometimes I cannot even shut down Windows normally I must do a hard shutdown. The shutdown process will get as far as the screen that says "Windows Is Shutting Down...." and hang there and I have to manually shutdown.

1024 Mb RAM
Nvidia GeForce 2 MX?MX400
XP Home SP2
Plextor CDR-W PX_W2410A v 1.04
Plextor CDR-W Premium V1.07
On this Plextor Premium, Hoster says it has v1.09 firmware, my system says it has v1.07 and the website lists v1.06 as the latest firmware?????

@Work
Acer Aspire 1800
3.2 GhZ Intel Pentium 4

ATI Mobility Radeon X600 PCI Express
XP Home SP2
Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831S (Internal)

An additional note ....I have two of the Plextor 2410's and they both produce the same result on either system.
