Missing Songs after import

I found out I had a bunch of missing songs that I know I have. I had to reinstall all my files from scratch. They are all either in zip format or MP3G format. I go into the build songs database, select MP3G and the ZIP buttons. I select the folder where I know one of the missing songs are. It then imports and shows up when I go to search for it. I can play the song. After I import more folders, some of the songs that I just imported seems to be missing. As an example I have the song Brown Eyed Girl in the play list and it will play but once I remove it from the play list and try to look it up again in the SEARCH feature, the song is no longer there.

I want to reimport all my songs from scratch if necessary to make sure all my songs are being imported but rescanning ALL of my folders does not seem to be working. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I am not worried about having to make new song books because I already have to since my last computer crash. Is using the Build Database not the way to go should I be using the Index feature instead? I love Hoster but it is getting to the point where it is way to complicated even using the manual.

Re: Missing Songs after import

It sounds like you have a number of duplicated Book id's or Disc id.
When you add the other folders if a Disc Id or Book id in the other folder is the same as the one already imported it tends to over wright the existing which might be a completely different title.
Do you add songs to the data base using different computers then copy those to the other computer ?
If so this can lead to duplicated file problems.
Also when you Add folders to the list of folders that have files in that have been previously indexed it is best to not have any of the buttons for "Song types to index" selected, then it will only add the files that were previously indexed. If you have some files in that folder that were not previously indexed it could allocate an id to it not knowing that that id is already allocated to a file in one of the other folders not yet added to the list.
Once all the folders are in the list then select the type to index buttons and rescan the folder.
It's too late now to use the above but remember for future reference.

Try this first, in the rebuild database dialog there is a Merge Duplicates button, is it greyed out ?
If not press that and see if that re-imports your songs with fresh Id's.

If it is greyed out have you tried selecting the rebuild database button ?After the rebuild it may report that you have so many duplicated files and ask if you want to merge, if it does select to merge.

If after the above you are still missing files report back.
Let us know which version of Hoster your using and if you have kma types as well as kmh.

Re: Missing Songs after import

I did not use another computer, this was a fresh install on a new computer.
I already tried the rebuild data base that did not work.
I tried merge also that did not fix problem.
After I posted this last night I tried re-importing via import hard drive files, as KHM and zip is selected. I am doing a batch file and it has been importing about one song every 30 seconds so far.

Since I have tried it this way and also the Build/Database is there going to be ca conflict?
Also looking inside all the folders that are currently be imported AND the ones still waiting to be imported , is the text file that shows each song ending zip.khm
What effect does this text file have on re-importing? Should I have deleted that text file from each computer?

If I decide to start over from scratch how should I do it.
Thanks for the help as usual.

That seems very slow to me.

The Zip.kmh file is a header file and contains info for hoster indexing system. there are also other .txt files, if your starting over best to delete these as they contain the duplicated id's.

64 bit OS
Hoster 5.08
To start from scratch I would do the following assuming your still using version 5.08
Look in your C:\MTU\Hoster folder and find the "HosterInfoIndexed.ini" file and delete it. Now start Hoster and go to the rebuild database dialog, your list of folders to index should show a blank list, rebuild the database now and it will build a blank empty data base. If you don't have any kma type files close Hoster and skip next bit. and go straight to
For KMH types.

If you have any kma type files that were original cdg discs I should re add that folder to the list of folders first but make sure there are only kma types in the folder and that none of the Song types to index buttons are highlighted if you get any duplicated notices after adding those merge songs before continuing.

For KMH types:
Now open the kmh folders in Windows explorer and delete the "ImportedFiles.txt" file important. You can also delete any other .txt files in thiese folders and all the .kmh files so you are only left with the original zip file or if they are mp3+g the mp3 and the cdg file.

This can be made easier by right clicking in the folder and select sort by Type, if type is not showing select More then tick the box for type then that option should appear.

Now use the index songs files button to open the Import Hard drive files dialog. Depending on the way your files are named it could be best to set the field separators to ignore the Disc Id and track # unless you specifically want that info imported, this will allow the full 99 tracks per book id and avoid any conflict if the files in these folder have an identical disk Id.

I took your advise except for the last part. I did not try indexing the songs, I went ahead and used the build song database (I am stubborn and wanted to see what would happen). I scanned the folders one at a time with no problems. The missing songs are still missing. I went back into my master folder and looked for some of the missing songs and found them and they seems to have gotten indexed ok. I checked to make sure there were no duplicate songs (Kid Rock Picture was one) I had only one copy of this song and I checked it's Disc Id to make sure there was not another one with the same one and there was not.
If I rescan that one individual folder the missing song will show up and play. I just don't understand why it is doing this.

So from your answer you say it shows up and plays, are you saying it shows from the search dialog and loads to the playlist ?
If so when does it stop appearing again, is it when you rescan the rest of the folders after it appeared ?

If that's when it disappears it's because you have either a duplicated Book ID or Disc ID.
The duplication has nothing to do with artist-title being the same.

I presume from your reply you deleted all the kmh & text files in the folders before rescanning them ?

Do you have any kma files at all ?

Are all your missing files from the same folder ?

If so repeat the deletion of the kmh headers and .txt files in that folder but before rescanning it in again click on the define field order button at the top and set the field order to ignore disk id then rescan the folder.
