External Hard drive question
Hi,
I recently copied my kma files to another external harddrive (1 TB). everything copied ok but I am having trouble getting all the songs to play (or sync) on the new harddrive. It shows the song in the files but won't pick them up after the rebuild. Any ideas? agentsinger |

Re: External Hard drive question
It is probably because Hoster doesn't know the new path of where the files are stored.
When you plug a new drive in it is allocated a volume Directory letter. If you copied these files from an existing external hard drive to this new external drive then it would have to have a different volume Directory letter than the one you copied from so if you want to run from this drive you either have to set it's volume Directory to the same as the one you copied from or re-add it to the folders list in the Build database dialog using the add Folders or Add folders/Sub folders button. If the files were copied from the C:/ drive then you can't make it a C/ drive as well, but if you copied from another external then you can set it's directory to the same providing it is not connected at the same time. To change it's directory path to match that showing in the list of folders note the directory letter used there. Now open control panel look for "Administrative Tools"then Computer management/Disc Management in this dialog you should see your drives appear in the bottom window, right click on your new drive and in the window that appears select "Change Drive letter & paths" another window appears click change, then select a volume letter to match that of your previous one then OK. This will only work providing you don't have both external drives connected at the same time ![]() If you are still having problems then give us more info like operating systemXP, Vista or windows 7 and the external volume letters. If you choose to use the add folders option, you will have to remove all the existing folders from the list in the rebuild dialog otherwise Hoster will regard them as duplicated files and not load them.

Re: External Hard drive question
Hey Roy,
Thanks for your reply. I looked at your response and am not sure this is where my problem lies. Probably because I didn't give enough information. When I copied the files to the other harddrive (external 1tb), I rebuilt the drive with obly this information on the drive. It's really funny but I have a Compaq that I do my show with (primary) and when I do a rebuild, It will pick up 19,000 of the 22,000 songs that I have in the same folder. Now these extra 3,000 songs were copied from another external drive of the exact same brand and space. Now my backup computer (stoneage but still a good computer) is a Dell 3000. I had to add a 2.0 usb to allow the TB external drive to work but all seems well other than this difference. Now when I run a rebuild with the dell, I get almost all my songs but it has about 100 songs that show "garbled information" on the songs information such as title, artist, etc ...but it will show ALL of the songs that I have on the drive(22,000). Now you may ask, why don't I just use this computer...well, I don't want to incorporate this into my show and get people used to the extra songs and not have it backed up. I tried completely wiping the compaq's external completely out and re copying but still the extra songs show in the file when I look for the KMA number but will not rebuild into the database to be found to play. Does this shed any other light ![]() sincerely.. Hoster Dummy |

Robbie, (Agent Singer )
Tell us what version of Hoster you currently are using? May shed some light on your rebuild issues!

Re: External Hard drive question
Are you using the same versions of Hoster on both computers, and as Rikki Tikki asked what versions ?
I am wondering if it has something to do with duplicate Book ids. The latest version has a problem if it finds duplicate book ID whereas the previous versions had a merge function. Could some of the 3000 files from that hard drive have had duplicated Book Id as the files already on the computer ?

Re: External Hard drive question
Hey guys,
Theyy are not the exact same Hoster versions as I found when I perfromed the rebuild. I just updated both though and when I saw the rebuild box, it did throw me off a bit. I downloaded the new versions within days though which is weird. I'll have to see which is the newest and doenload the older one right? Would this be why the songs are showing garbled? ![]() |

Re: External Hard drive question
Hey Guys,
I'm using the same version for both computers and both are up to date with a newer version (5.0.4.0). Now not only am I having MANY MANY songs scrambled when I rebuild my database but I can't add new kma's from a disk. It won't let me change root book ID's ???? Have I lost all the songs that are in Hebrewish jibberish and can I fix it to accept cdg's. Man I wish I had my old versions back. They never did this crap. Robbie ![]() |

Version 5.05 has released and does have the ability back in it to fix duplicate BookIDs. You can go back your old version, but you will need to delete your songs.mdb and songs_backup.mdb files, install vesion 4.32 from download or older version if you have a copy of it and then rebuild the database. After you have your database back to "normal" then you can upgrade back up to 5.05. Just be sure you let it finish the rebuild required to add in the additional fields or you will end up with scrambled files again.

Re: External Hard drive question

Now your second problem with not being able to add new kma from disc, If you enter a Brand & Disc Id that has been entered before it will not let you change the book Id, if these are disc's that you entered before and you are trying to re-import then it will select the previous book id and you will have to re-import over that existing one. You could try going into your edit dialog search for that existing disc and delete all tracks for that disc Id then it may allow you to enter another one when importing that disc. If this is a completely new disc and not been entered before and you select a Brand and disc Id and you still get this problem, after all the song Title and Artists are listed alter the disc Id slightly by adding a letter on the end of it, then see if you can alter the Book Id to what you want or just press next button. Regarding your last point, why can't you go back to your last version ? If it is listed here: http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster.htm You can re-download it and install it again. You may have to delete your songs.mdb first, then rebuild the database once installed if you decide to go backward or it could prevent the older version from opening.

Re: External Hard drive question
Hi Guys,
I think I muddied the water when describing the boog ID problem. When I put a CDG disk in my drive to copy, (and as I don't use internet at my place), I had to manually enter the information. In the past I entered the CDG number and then just selected the "next" book ID number available but it won't move from the number "1". It also will not let me change the "1" to any other number. ??? When I upgraded recently, I had not upgraded in about 5 years so maybe that's why all the crap is happening. Did I understand right that I need to downgrade and then rebuild? I am running XP. The only reason the BookID should be stuck at that number should be that the particular CDG DiskID you entered to import was already in the database.
