Question laptop won't dual display

I have been trying to get my laptop to work for my shows but, I can't get it to show dual. It has a s video out and I can get it to show on either the laptop or the tv but not both. The button to extend my desktop does not allow me to check it. I've tried a new driver still no luck. Can someone help? The video card is S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR.

I have a Dell laptop with s3 graphics and it won't work either. You can not extend your desktop. It will only be in the clone mode. There is now way to make it work with s3 graphics.

Same Problem

Since installing 3.010 I haven't been able to make dual display work on my sony Vaio either. I've been running hoster on this laptop for two years now, but now It won't work. the way I've been making it work for shows is to make the laptop lyrics screen float, resizing it and dragging it to the tv screen. But in the normal conventional sense of how the program used to work, I can not make it work. I hadn't posted anything about this previously, because I have been very busy and not able toresearch the problem much, but for two weeks now, that is what I've had to do to make my show work.

See if this will work with your setup. It may not. I don't know anything about that video card.

Have everything connected and turned on.

Right click anywhere on a blank spot on your desktop.

Click on PROPERTIES.

Click on SETTINGS.

You should see a screen with two monitors.

Click on MONITOR NUMBER TWO to highlight it.

Click on the block that says EXTEND MY DESKTOP TO THIS MONITOR.

Click APPLY.

lapyop won't dual display

The First product I ever purchased from mtu was Microstudio and the owners manual and in fact I believe the description on the website said it would not work with an s3 graphics card.I think this is true for all of their programs.
When I say "it" I mean dual display noth the software itself.

product description on MTU website clearly states S3 cards will not work.
http://mtu.com/basics/karaoke-hoster.htm towards the bottom under computer requirements.

Quote:
3 * Graphics video card with 32MB or more of RAM. GRAPHICS CARD ABSOLUTELY MUST support Direct-X 9.0 or higher (Go to your graphics card manufacturer's web site to find out; cards with less that 32MB RAM probably won't support 9.0). Dual-display requires an ATI Radeon 9000 or higher, or NVidia equivalent. S3 video cards don't support Direct-X 9.0.

Changing video cards

Hi all
I would be interested in that question too! Don't most laptops use an onboard graphics chip mounted on the motherboard? My Sony Viao Laptop has a ATI Radeon 9700 graphics chipset I don't think that It is a separate dedicated card.
Luckily I have the dual display feature and mostly don't have any problems doing dual screens. Occasionally I will run the laptop with the tv not hooked up and It will change my settings but that is easily corrected now that I know how too.
I also have a Docking Station Which has every connection I need from audio, Video, S video, and USB and Firewire to Coaxial.
The Geek squad at Best Buys told me that Laptops You get what you get and video is practically impossible to upgrade without changing Motherboards if that is at all possible.

Docking Station

Are you saying the docking station enables you to run the dual display? Or is that your solution to your pc to show on multible outlets? This laptop I have has an s video out, that I use to send signal to the modulater from there I can split with coax spliter.. But, with this card only display laptop or tv... Your probably right about the intregrated video card. (I'm just hoping not.) I probably should mention the laptop I'm useing or trying to use is Hp pavilion zt1175, I allready found the cdr won't work for the program. So, I have to import on home pc and then transfer to laptop. Just keep on running into roadblocks.... I guess I may have to look for another laptop (I hope not!)

Dual Display continued

Hi All
In answer to the docking station ? On the bottom of My Sony Vaio Laptop It has a Port that hooks into the Docking station and the Laptop sits on top of the station. I think other companys have a USB variety and possibly their may even be third party versions. I use it to hook up audio and video to it, the docking station has right left audio in and out that I use to plug my mixer into, it also has video in and out RCA ports as well as S video and Coaxial. and I can hook sony computer speakers into it as well if I just want to use them in a home situation. I use my stereo for that most times but If I was in a hotel room and wanted to watch a DVD I could use my laptop with decent sound. The dual display comes from the ATI chipset. It has the Radeon 9700 which does offer Dual display but you have to set it up as such using the display properties after right clicking on a blank portion of the laptop screen. Make sure your TV or second monitor is hooked up at the time and turned on.It is a matter of dragging the singer screen, and singer name display to it. Once you set up the dual display feature. I had to use my cursor and physically drag them to the TV set with everything hooked up. If I don't have the TV or second monitor hooked up it will change the settings back to single display. If you have Monitor 1 and Monitor 2, Make sure your Laptop's Screen is your Primary display, you don't want Monitor 2 (TV) to be the primary display. It is a real problem to see the screen well enough to change everything back due to TV's not having clear enough resolution. I'm not sure about S3 cards and hoster compatibility.
As far as the reader/writer I use a Plextor PX-716 UF external plugged into my USB port. It also can be used on the firewire port if you don't have a extra USB port availiable. Might save you having to buy a new laptop if you get the video worked out. That unit runs about $200.00 and will read/ write CD+G and DVD. Or you can buy a certified burner from MTU.

Hope this helps
John

Doesn't that video card have a help manual?

I know with the ATI 7500 all you have to do is double click on the shortcut to open the help manual.

Dual Display

The S3 video cards (for desktop) and built in (part of motherboard) do not support any type of dual display. The S-video plug you have is so you can switch to a TV to display DVD movies or play games with the larger screen, but you can not split the video. Also, there is no way to replace the video on the laptop as it is always a part of the motherboard circuitry. Sorry to burst your bubble but what you are wanting is impossible.

Your only option to get dual display is use a desktop computer with an ATI Radeon card or get a different laptop with the ATI Radeon built in.
