Unhappy slow sweep

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
System Manufacturer: VIA Technologies, Inc.
System Model: VT8363
BIOS: SOYO - 42302e31
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~900MHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)
Display Devices: NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra
Display Memory: 64.0 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (16 bit) (85Hz)
Monitor: Princeton EO2010 (21 Inch)
Sound Devices: SB Live 5.1
ASPI Drivers updated to new Adaptec 4.6

MicroStudio 2.3.1.4
KHPro 2.0.0.9
Keyrite 1.2.0.2
Vogone2 2.0.1.4

With that said and done here is my problem. I have no problem in producing a cdg in KHP. Everything works great and when I review my song before turning it into a cdg file everything is perfect. The words sweep in perfect time with the music just like it's suppose to do. The problem comes after I have saved the song to a cdg file. When I play it back using MicroStudio or even WinCDG Pro 2, The sweep on the words is about 5 seconds behind the music. I've tried changing my screen view to 800X600 at 16 bit color but it just don't matter. I've tried all combonations of lines, different font size, different font. You name it I think I've tried it. Has anybody else had this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ray, this is not a solution to the problem, but might be a temporary band aid until the problem can be fixed. Have you tried compensating by changing the sweep offset? It may not even go up that high, or even have any effect on your problem. Dunno, just brainstorming.

take care,

George

Unhappy Slow Sweep

Thanks George for quick reply. I should have said in my first message that I had already tried that as well. If I understand correctly, the lower the number the faster the sweep starts. I tried different combanations I even went as low as 0.0 with no change.

I did talk with Brian on the phone and he is having the same problem within Win 2000. He's is a little bit different. When he loads his CDG file in Microstudio and plays it. It starts out perfect but then after about 5 lines of text the sweep drops back to almost a line behind. They were going to look at it lastnight and hopefully have a solution today.

Red face Not quite right on Offset operation...

We goofed with the default Offset value.

This value is supposed to be a NEGATIVE value for the field you now have. When you enter -0.200 it will place your lyrics 200 milliseconds earlier in the music than you tapped them in.

The next version of Microstudio will have this field modified so it ALWAYS moves the lyrics earlier. We can't think of any condition in creating a CDG where you might want to make the lyrics appear "after" they are to sing.

Unhappy Slow Sweep Still Slow

I got excited when I read your post. I thought you had the fix.
But guess what? I tried it and it made no difference at all. I even tried -0.40 and nothing changed so I tried -1.00 and nothing changed. My sweep of the words is still a good 4 to 5 seconds behind the song after being saved to a cdg file. Again when you play it in KHP it's perfect. What do I try next?

Ray, still just brainstorming. Have you tried burning to a disc regardless. Wondering perhaps if the problem is in the Microstudio play, but would be bypassed if burning from songlist to a cd. Like I said, just fishing, but I'd give it a try.

Take care,

George(Waco, Tx.)

Unhappy Slow Sweep

Hi George,

Yes, I've tried that and it played just like before. Nothing changed. I've tried eveything I can think of. You would think that when I change the sweep time it would make some kind of difference but it doesn't. I even tried -5.00 and didn't change anything.

Unhappy Slow Sweep ?

Well I've done something that narrows down the problem. I put all my MTU programs on my laptop which is a:
Dell Inspiron 1 Gig PIII
512 Meg Ram
NIVIDia Gforce 2 Video
Windows XP Pro which is installed in WinNT Folder not Windows as it is on my desktop where I have all the problems

I took the same song, (Crazy) and used KHP to make a CDG and used all the defaults and believe it or not when I play the cdg with Microstudio it is perfect.

I don't understand the problem. I'm totally confused.
Do I need to format my hard drive on the desktop and reinstall WindowsXP and make sure it installs into WinNT, or is this not the problem? I have updated the ASPI drivers on the laptop to the new adaptec 4.6 so I don't think that is the problem.

Anybody have any ideas?

Lightbulb Workaround

Well, I still can't figure out why the sweep is delayed in the final cdg file, but I did figure out a way to work around it.

1. Import your WAV file and lyrics.
2. Synch the lyrics as usual.
3. Create the cdg file.
4. Play back the file and count the number of seconds the sweep is delayed (a stopwatch helps here).
5. Use an editing program to add silence at the beginning of the WAV file in accordance with the delay (i.e., if sweep is delayed 3 seconds, add 3 seconds silence) and save the file with a different filename ("song" saved as "song1").
6. Start KHP and import "song" and lyrics.
7. Synch as usual.
8. Go to the directory where you saved the WAV files and rename "song" to "song2" (or whatever) and rename "song1" to "song". (Essentially you are swapping the lengthened track for the original, but KHP doesn't realize that).
9. Create your CDG file.

Voila! No more sweep lag!

I know, its a pain in the rear, but the only way I can make a usable CDG file at the moment.

This is a real pain. Will this be repaired in the next version?

From KHaibeck during Beta Testing...

OMIGOSH!! I CAN"T BELIEVE IT!! I absolutely, positively cannot believe this!

I went into CMOS and changed all audio settings to enabled, including on-board, legacy, and soundblaster, and IT WORKED!

No more sweep delay!

*fans herself* I may faint!

YIPPPPPEEEEEEE!

I'm so proud I could bust!

Admin note: This is copied from KHaibeck's post in the Beta Testers notes. We'll try to get more exact details on this soon.

KHPro 3.010 status

During beta testing, KHaibeck ran into this same sweeping problem as did TWright. However, nitelife and others did not. Thus, it is not necessarily a code bug.

KHaibeck discovered her problem May 3rd or 4th. It is her audio card settings in XP.
