Okay, did the updates. Hoster installed, but still got the same errors. I tried to build the database and it went through the normal procedure, but said it has 0 songs in the database. my files are on an external. never ran into this before. Think it's vista?

are you sure you directed hoster to the folder that has all your kma's on ??

if its on an external drive, you have to make sure the drive letter doesnt change.

This is normal with Vista. The install works correctly. The install is trying to change existing files that were not included in 2000 or XP. I would expect MTU will fix that in a future upgrade, but it is just a minor irritation at this point.

There were several threads on this and what needs to be done. Basically Hoster is being denied access to the external drive. I have been looking but can't find exactly what has been done to fix it. Maybe Beavis remembers or can find it. There were several things that worked but were not the fix that should be used.
One you can do is to set the Hoster.exe file to run as administrator, which would give access to them. To do this find the Hoster.exe file in the Program Files area, right click on it and click on "Run as..." and set it to the administrator account.

Go to the MSN logo in the lower left corner of your screen, click on it, select computer in the panel to the right that will take you to the hard drive for access.

Or click all programs, accessories, windows explorer.

I usually click and drag the windows explorer to the desktop for the ease of access to the hard drive.

Thanks Dale and Bevis!

I'm sorry I've been tied up solving the Vista problems.

As to the original problem of this Thread, here is the text we are adding into the Installation panel just before the component files are installed:

Hoster has always installed the Microsoft Access JetEngine to insure you have this code to create and use the Songs and Bucket Databases in Hoster.
If you are installing under Windows Vista, you will see two error messages:

1. C:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll Access Is Denied
2. C:\windows\system32\stdole2.tlb Error Accessing OLE Registry

Ignore both of these and continue installing Hoster. The only way we know of right now is to not install the Access JetEngine and require you to download it yourself. We feel that ignoring the Vista warnings is easier than doing another download before Hoster will run.

We expect to have Hoster 3.321 go out to our Beta Testers today. We have FINALLY discovered what Vista is doing that looses files, shows (0) files in the Build Songs Database, and other nasties we never thought Microsoft could stoop so low to do.

WARNING: Keep the Compatibility mode set as Dale as instructed. DO NOT reverse it or Vista will hide KMA files that are in the Hoster default \Songs folder. We are moving this folder to a new location where Vista will stop playing havoc with our files.
