Laptop DVD

My Teac laptop DVD/CDRW still not recognized. Bummer. It did recognize my Sony on my test tower. Are there any thoughts of adding new drives?

Great job!!

Question laptop dvd

My Dell Inspiron 8500 internal DVD/CDRW drive not recognised. Does this mean I'll have to swap my external Plextor PX 4824 for DVD/CDRW drive and spend more money?

Hoster 3.3 which has just been released will recognise all cd/dvd drives, however you will need to test those drives to see how well they work, some will work perfectly and some won't import the graphics at all, and the rest will fall in-between somewhere graphic quality-wise. There is no list so you will have to test it out.
Plextors still work the best especially the ones MTU sells which have been "certified" or pre-checked out.

I read somewhere on the forum here that within the next year Plextor is going to stop making CDG compatable drives so you might want to get em' while the gettin's good.

Unhappy DVD Laptop

If I try a cdg into my laptop all I get is a Hoster Application "encountered a problem, etc" and then crashes.

I am talking about 3.30. It doesn't recognize all drives, like Teacs. When you start to import, Hoster closes. Still have to use USB Plextor for shows or tell customers not to bring there own music. Oh well, you can't have it all. It still is much better than using cdg's.

Re : Hoster Upgrade 3310

Just upgraded to Hoster 3310 and my Dell INSPIRON 8500 drive which is a HLDTSTRW/DVD GCC-424 OND110 is on the recognised list but still will not play customers discs. I add the track, the drive starts up, a box appears and then the drive stops and nothing happens. Is this a bug or is it my drive to blame ? :

Eric have you used this drive to import any of your CDGs from the Import Screen? Have you tried a known good CDG from your collection to import from the playlist screen? If these work then it is probably your singer's cdg that is bad.

Hi Dale,
I have been using my external Plextor drive for importing for over 5 years now with great success. When I upgraded to 3310 I thought I would give my internal Dell laptop drive a try. When I saw it listed I thought I stood a good chance of it being succesful. Sadly it won't import or play cdg discs.

Unfortunately, even if they are listed some drives will still not work or work poorly at best. Nothing beats a Plextor for the quality though. Reason I asked is because most customers (singers) just don't really understand about taking care of CDs. They also think you can just copy CDGs the same way you copy everything else. I have seen some that were so badly scratched that you could feel the scratches. Then they wonder why they won't play.....sigh.

One thing you might try is to go to Dell support and make sure you have the latest firmware for the drive. That could help and it certainly can't hurt.

Yes, that's true. But I get told almost every time that they play on the guy's machine across the street. (He probably uses a cdg player, no doubt). Are we to explain that we use a hoster program that doen't import his. Actually, I like to stay quiet about my edge on the competition (unless I am specifically asked). But it would be nice if my edge would take his disk, too, like the competition does?

As DDouglas stated, will it work from the Import Screen?

Also make sure this drive is listed in the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster folder in this file PFC.ini, you can open it with Notepad.

If it is not listed, then it will not work. You can't just add it to this list either and it then work, it has to be coded in on top of being added to this list by the manufacturer.

That is why I have a player set up in my "System" box. I have taken that same disc they say will play in the other guys, put it in my JVC and have the JVC reject it. Then they can't say anything else. Unfortunately for them I know that "other guy" across the street and he comes to me for equipment advice.
