humming or hiss coming through speakers

I had mentioned this before about possible humming noise from laptop through the speakers and several solutions were mentioned. However, I also think that my JBL Eon 15 speakers do a lot of humming on their own? Does anyone use these speakers and have the same issue with them.

I am mentioning this on Hoster help as it may detract from fears of the program being used on a laptop.

Humm and hiss are 2 different animals. Humm is generally a grounding issue or having some of your components on circuits that are out of phase with the circuits other components are on. Sharing circuits with certain other equipment can be problematic as well. Hiss tends to be related to the quality of the components in your signal chain, it's been my experience that the mixer is usually the culprit.

As to your original question: If the speakers are powered it's possible they (or the circuit they are on) are the source of your hum, if they are passive they are not the source, something else in the chain is responsible

Have you tried one of the Ground Plug lifters, on the Laptop? I don't know aobut the speakers, but I know these 3 prong to 2 prong adapters, you can get at Home Depot, Lowes and Radioshack seem to work. I have to use one on my personal laptop.

other causes of "hum"

Be aware that the lighting in your venue can also have an impact on your sound. Fluorescent lights, or those new compact fluorescent energy-saver bulbs, can cause quite a significant hum through the speakers even if the ground of the laptop is lifted (and does the same thing with non-laptop systems). Just an FYI.
