Back up hard drive
Is it possible to use a external hard drive to store hoster on? The problem arises in I have to different set of equiptment. Speakers disk etc. I have 2 computers. Can I make and external drive to use on the 2 pcs if one fails? or will the backup drive be married to the pc that i install the stuff on at teh time of instalation? Basicaly I want to use the external drive interchangeably between either pc.
Hope I am not cornfuzing you all..LOL

Re: Back up hard drive
your allowed to put hoster on 2 computers with only one license.
Or you could use norton ghost to clone your exsiting hard drive to a new hard drive as back up. this way if one crashes, just unplug it and plug in the back up, and off you go !! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Back up hard drive
hmm I thought It was 3 hard drives? I have hoster on 2 pc's now. I thought I could take the 3rd install and put it on 1 external drive so i could use it incase either pc went down?

Re: Back up hard drive
How do I do that. I looked at my norton and coudl not figure it out?
Does MTU offer a license or something? For example say I have 2 pc's and I am running 2 shows...which I assume is ok. can I get a license for a 3rd pc to use as a back up pc or do I have to buy hoster again for the 3rd pc I may never use?

Re: Back up hard drive
you are allowed 1 show per license. your not suppose to use the back up for an additional show.
norton ghost is easy, just use the cloning option. it has a wizard and only takes about 10 minutes. |

Re: Back up hard drive
Norton Ghost is software that you have to buy. You may have Norton Antivirus or something, but may not have Norton Ghost. I have noticed lately that some external hard drives actually come with the software. Wish I'd known that before I bought my copy.

Re: Back up hard drive
I think the Maxtor-One-Touch software that comes with the Maxtor drives will do it as well but not sure.

Re: Back up hard drive
If you use Ghost to backup the computer this should work, as long as you don't change the hardware, if you change the hardware then you are dead without any running copy.

Re: Back up hard drive
I don't think he has a problem getting his PC to recognize the new hardware (external drive). He wants to have the HOSTER software itself installed on an external drive to swap between 2 PCs instead of just having the kma files on the external drive and swapping those between 2 PCs that have the HOSTER software. From what I've read on the boards here, the HOSTER software itself should be on the PC and not on the external drive. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone using NORTON GHOST, be sure to create the RECOVERY BOOT DISC that they suggest.
Something hit my computer before I shut down last night. This morning I could not boot to C:. When I tried using the XP disc to boot and repair the drive it told me the hard drive was corrupted and could not be repaired. I remembered having made the RECOVERY BOOT DISC when I installed GHOST. I was able to boot with it, clone the unaffected D: to C: and everything was back to normal in about 20 minutes. A key to that also is to copy and paste any additions(new songs, etc) to any of the C: folders to the matching D: folders, saving to do a clone after each operation. I do that after every new addition to the C:, then when a drive is restored out of necessity, nothing is lost. Since Ghost replaces everything on the target drive, an automatic format is achieved, eliminating that step. As quarantined viruses and spywares build up on C: I simply clone the unaffected D: to C: and get rid of them, leaving all files in clean, operable condition. If you installed Ghost and skipped making the RECOVERY BOOT DISC, do it now. Without it, I would have been carrying my pc to the shop Monday . George |

i always use the clone to another drive. thn you just swap out the drives and re-clone the bad drive.
