![]() So all caught up in the buzz of running karaoke from a laptop after seeing it work at my former job and how well it has run for them, I decided to jump right in.
Not needing a songbook (I already have one) I downloaded, installed and registered Hoster Lite (the latest version). I imported a couple hundred tracks, and planned on testing it Saturday night at a private party with my discs playing backup. Regularly, the song sweep time fell FAR behind the lyrics. On a single page, with no other action, it was perfectly on time. But once any kind of sweeping or new graphics appear, it was woeful at best. Knowing the song completely by memory was the only way to sing the songs. This was consistent over about ten songs before I shut the computer down and resorted to discs. I'm a bit dissolutioned because my system meets the requirements. Sometimes the music was over a full two minutes before the lyrics were done. Here's what I'm running: Sony VAIO Notebook PIII 1GHz 256MB Ram 16MB VRam Windows 2000 SP4 Single-video but with optional monitor-out, which I used. Here's what I tried: Closing out all unnecessary processes (yes I know which are which) Increased virtual memory manually. Reconfigured startup processes and non-microsoft system services. Reboot Ugh. Ultimately, since I do this on the side, and rarely for any kind of REAL money, I decided not to buy the full hoster program. However, if I can't use the program at all, it was like flushing $90 down the toilet. I don't need a refund (nor do I expect I would receive one) but I'd like to know if I can receive another registration code to install Hoster Lite on my desktop system. Even though it's much more cumbersome than my notebook, it's still easier than hauling around 500 CDs. |

What version of DIRECTX are you running? Hoster Lite requires version 9.0 or later.
You can check this by clicking START, then click RUN. In the dialog box type in DXDIAG, then click OK. Near the bottom of the first page that loads, it will say which version of DIRECTX is installed. If not 9.0 or later, then go to the Microsoft website and download the latest version of DIRECTX for your operating system. Hope this gets it for you. George |

I'll try that when I get home. I really hope that's all it is. I'd rather kick myself for not checking that than have to haul my 65 lb desktop monster around.

DirectX is not the source of my problem
Well, I'm home and DirectX version is 9.0c. Anything else?

Let's try reducing the sound hardware accellerators and see if that will get the audio and video in sync.
Click the START, RUN; ...DXDIAG should be showing. If so, click OK. If not, click the arrow for the pull down menu and select it, then OK. At the top of the page click the SOUND 1 tab. This should be your sound card. Midway down the page there should be a slider marked HARDWARE SOUND ACCELLERATION LEVEL. As bad off as your sync is, I'd move that slider all the way to the left. If that's an overkill you can always go back in and move it a notch back to the right. Close that out and see if that gets it. Regarding your other pc, MTU permits installing on another pc for backup purposes only. Use your same doenload link and installation code. be sure to be connected to the internet when you do it. Again, no luck when reducing sound acceleration to nothin. Any other suggestions?
I don't care if I have to whip this system down to bare bones |

Okay, just came up with new info that might help:
Ran Task Manager while hoster was doing its thing. Anytime words are being printed, CPU % is about 40-55. Not bad. Coloring lyrics, 1-10%. Sweeping is at 75%. Whoa. Anytime more than one of these is happening on screen, the CPU goes to 100% and then lag happens. Looks like you might want to reconsider the requirements at PIII 1GHz. I tried adjusting the Process Priority to no avail. Just some more food for thought, in case it helps. -Jerry |

Hoster Lite and Hoster normally require less than 2% CPU time on any operations. Your Windows doesn't have enough memory to run itself in. |

Jerry,
At this point I'd be tempted to think that perhaps the 256 mg ram is just not working for you. System requirements are 512 mg. George Whoopps we crossed in the mail...well, that reinforces it. Thanks, Admin |

Memory Issue
So the hoster lite webpage doesn't mention a system requirement of 512MB. I've already jumped in and made this mistake, so I'm only suggesting it for future users. I'm going to install my backup copy and remove it from the laptop, since the VAIO that I use uses proprietary style RAM at $190 for an extra 256MB stick, which I am not gonna spend, especially if that still may not solve the issue.
Still only slightly miffed, Jerry |

Just to let you know it works, i run hoster on a dell 8100 laptop 1 gig with 512 megs ram, for over a year, it works perfect no problems, so 512 of ram is the key. Bob

I expect you are entering either the Registration Code or Registration Email incorrectly. Post back here what you find. I also moved this thread to Hoster Help where it belongs, now that you are a registered MTU.Community member. ![]() WRONG!!! ![]() |

The Problem is that your Video chip that is built into this Laptop is to old. The problem is that it does not support DIRECTX 9.0.
To find this out for sure you will have to go to your Laptop Manufacturer and find the Latest Video drivers. These MUST state that they SUPPORT DirectX 9.0, which with this laptop being older with a 16mb card, I don't think this is possible on this system. Give it a try and let us know what you find, but this is what your problem is, since it is out of sync.

Still says I've used all my registrations. Hmm. Entered all information exactly as it appeared in the registration email.

Duh.... forgive my dead brain being up since 2:30AM.
Hoster Lite installs on ONE computer. After discussing this with MTUSUPPORT, we are sure the problem is your video card drivers are not DirectX 9.0 compliant to show the video as your describe. Go to the manufacturer's web site and see if they have 9.0 capable video drivers before you do anything else. |

My apologies, also. I assumed(bad word) Hoster Lite installed on two pc's as does Hoster.
