I want to know which is better. The Portable PC or the Laptop from MTU. What are the pros and con? Any one using the the Portable? I can see lots of laptop users.

Moved to the Hoster Help forum where you will get some answers.

I'd say this:

1. The Portable PC has the DVDR drive inside, while the USB DVDR we ship with the Laptop is external. Also, we add larger hard drives inside the Portable PC, while the Laptop comes with smaller internal drives that are slower. The Laptop may reqire an external hard drive to store your KMA file library if it is large.

2. Laptop has the LCD display built in while the Portable requires an external monitor.

3. Portable PC will run cooler and is less susceptable to overheating. Some laptops have been reported overheating when the air intake on the bottom is blockek. You should expect it to have a problem when you starve it for cooling air. However, the Portable PC is LESS susceptable to blocked air intakes.

4. Price

5. Laptop is more portable, but the Portable PC

there is no internal flexibilty with a laptop. that is thats reasonable. you are stuck with what comes inside a laptop. on the other hand a PC you can change what ever you like at very reasonable prices. Plus you can put very large hard drives in a PC cheap !!!

I use a Shuttle PC. I have used a Loptop but I don't care for the mouse or keyboard. If you play customer's disks you must have an external CDR hooked up. Also if you have a large number of kma files you will have to hook up a external hard drive. This is all built into a PC. I know you have to plug in mouse, keyboard and monitor but I still think it is better to use a PC. I know others prefer Laptops.

I use a laptop (NON MTU).....everything works fine. I just try to make sure that I don't carry duplicate songs. I just pick the best version. I like my laptop...but if I had the money......I would go rackmounted.

I've been using a laptop ever since I bought Hoster a little over a year ago - had to have both an external hard drive (I have video files which take up a lot of space) and disk drive (for customers with their own disks). I bought a Shuttle as a backup system, and once I got it configured, I ended up using it as my primary (and saving the laptop for my backup). It's actually easier setup and teardown since everything is in one little box. Yes, you have to have a keyboard and mouse, but I was using a wireless mouse and a USB 10-key pad with the laptop anyway. I'm using a 15" LCD monitor - it's really light, takes up hardly any room, and I found a bag that everything fits in easily.
