Can't get hoster to boot up - USB drive was unplugged and re-lettered!

I have been loading my cdg's for a couple of days now without turning off the computer. I turned the computer off today I restarted my computer When I try to start up my copy of Hoster I get a warning window that says "F:/Songs.mdb is not a vaild path. Make sure the path name is spelled correctly and that you areconnected to the server on which the file resides. Would you like to see help? " Yes No. when you click yes. " Cannot find the Jeterr35.hlp. Do you want to find it your self?. When I go down the path of yes and no questions I finally see Hoster I am asked if I want to send an error report to Microsoft. Send or don't send. When I select one I instantly go back to my desk top! Hoster is closed out. The F:/songs is a file on my external hard drive. The hard drive is actually I: I uninstall hoster reinstall it and I get the same message with the same results. Does anyone know what to do.
Thanks Jerry
I'm running this copy on my desk top: !.6 pentium

Re: Can't get hoster to boot up

Make sure your External Drive is Plugged into the Computer.

Open Hoster and locate the TOOLS Tab On the TOP MENU Bar. Click TOOLS and then click BUILD SONGS DATABASE.

When the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Window opens, look at the SONG SOURCE FOLDER panel and see if your PATH, to where your KMA files are located, has your, aforementioned, DRIVE LETTER I.

If not, click the Folder that is listed to Highlight it. Then click DELETE FOLDER.

If all you KMA files are located in ONE Source Folder, then the SONGS SOURCE FOLDERS Panel should be EMPTY.

Now, click SELECT FOLDER and naviagte to the DRIVE and FOLDER where your KMA files are located. For instance, if your KMA files are located on the External Drive "I," and, in the Folder "SONGS" on the "I" Drive, then your Path should look like this: I:\SONGS

Once you get to the CORRECT DRIVE and FOLDER KMA location, click SELECT.

Upon clicking SELECT, the DRIVE\FOLDER designation will be entered into the SONGS SOURCE FOLDERS Panel.

Then, click the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Button that is located near the bottom left of the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Window.

Once the database has been rebuilt, Hoster will know where to find your Imported KMA files.

Re: Can't get hoster to boot up

To get Hoster to Open, you may have to first:

Assign the external drive back to 'F' .

I think I remember this is done under Drive Management.

I had a similar problem -- that was my only solution.

If I remember right - Hoster creates some files in interesting places -- and Windows doesn't keep the DOS file identifier RIGID -- IE -- if you plug in a temporary storage device - - it (windows) assigns it the next available Drive Letter -- But upon reboot -- well except for the internal components -- you'll just have to wait and see what windows has assigned -- If you're a GUI person that's great -- but for anything that still uses anything DOS related (and a lot of programs do!) this can be a challenge!

if you have a desktop, i would highly recommend 2 large (250g) internal hard drives. they are cheap ($125 at BEst buy) and it will run much smoother!

Along those same lines, Seagate is now offering a 5 yr. warranty on their internal drives. The rest of the industry offering 1 yr. warranties, and Seagate has always been a highly rated drive.

MTUSUPPORT ADDED: We are also using the Seagate drives for this reason. They stand up to harsh environments better also.

Microsoft assigns drive letters in the order it finds the drives. To change the drive letters do the following: (on XP at least)

Right click on "My Computer"
Click on "Manage"
Expand "Storage" if needed
Click on "Disk Management"

This will show you a list of drives the system knows about. If the "F" drive is assigned to another drive right click on it select "Change Drive letter and paths"
Highlight the Drive letter and select "change"
Select a new drive letter for this drive.

Repeat the process for drive "I" to change it back to drive "F"

Try Hoster again.

Re: Can't get hoster to boot up

Thank you everybody! My USB external hard drive was unpluged. When I did plug back in XP assigned it a new letter! I followed your suggestions and was able to get Hoster up and running again. You guys rock!! Thanks for helping the new guy. Jerry

PS. I'm using my desktop to load the the cdg's onto the external hard drive, then I will use it with my laptop.
