Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I am thinking about installing the Windows XP Service Pac #2 and am worried that it might cause me some problems.

I would like to hear from anyone who has installed it about if it caused them any Hoster Software problems or not.

I installed 2.219 but it crashed at a show, so I went back to 2.215. Advice from MTU was to install the service pac and then reinstall 2.219.

Before I do, I'd like some input from the trenches.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

dlessnau,
I think it's all going to depend on how clean one's system is to begin with. The reason I say that is because I held off installing SP2 because of some negative stuff I'd seen posted, and I'd had no problems with any MTU products.

Seems there were so many conflicting posts anyway, I just bit the bullet and installed it three weeks ago, and am still running just fine, with a noticable reduction in annoying pop-ups, and have all the latest versions of all the MTU products, running just fine.

Some times one has to make their own decisions, and be responsible for the results. No one else can do that for you.

Hope you'll forgive the brief sermon.

George

I am running sp2 on 3 machines with no problems. I understand there are a few programs that will not run with it, but haven't seen them. I would recommend doing a image backup of your hard drive just in case.

It would save a lot of reloading If there was a problem.

I have nothing else on my laptop except Hoster, so it looks like I'll be OK.

Thanks

The only thing you may have to do is reload a driver or two. I did have a problem with my wireless network likeing the new drivers, so I reloaded the old ones.

Thanks for the comments. It looks to me like it is safe to install SP2, so that is what I will do right now.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I'm back!

Did the install of SP2 and some other SP1 updates. I then reinstalled Hoster 2.219 and it looks like all went well. I see no problems at this time.

I made sure I made a restore point before the install of 2.219, so that if I have any problem, I can always restore back to 2.215.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I did an install of XP SP2 on my HP Pavilion ZV5000 computer over the weekend and in a mad panic installed it before a show today.

Although Hoster loaded, other programs like anything that played mp3, wav, wma, mpeg or even a DVD wouldn't work. Once I uninstalled SP2, everything went back to normal.

I am still waiting on an email from HP.

On my main home system however, installed SP2 with few problems and Hoster works fine.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

My Hoster laptop worked fine after my SP2 install and re-install of the latest update. However, I have no other programs on my computer, so I don't know if those would have been effected or not.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

Thanks for the tip. I just installed it. How does one find out when something new is available like Directx 9. I had no idea until you posted the information.

gduns

Have you had any sort of a problem since installing Directx 9.0? I have been getting pop ups telling me that Windows has a problem with this or that program, and needs to shut it down. Never got these before I installed Directx 9.0.

I have not used Hoster since the install so I hope I have no problem with it when I use it tomorrow.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I just tested the Hoster program on my laptop and all seems well. Thank Heaven.

However, in the past, when I opened Hoster and started a song using the laptop and not connected to another TV, I would get a full screen of the song being played until I double clicked it. Then it would go to the small screen in the upper left corner.

Now, I do not get the full screen, and double clicking on the little screen has no effect. What happened? Why does it no longer come up with a full screen?

Why are you waiting for a show to find out? Do you like surprises in public?

Not trying to be argumentative, just don't understand the rational.

George

P.S--running XP with SP1&2 and Direct X 9.0c with no problems.

Re: Installing Windows XP Service Pac #2 - YES or NO

I agree with george on this also

as I posted earlier, I had to reload some of the original drivers for sp2 you may have to reload your video driver, I would check it out somehow before the show.
