Question External Hard Drive

I have to get an External hard drive for my laptop.I have a Dell Inspiron 8200
It has windows Xp also a 40G hard drive. What kind of external hard drive should I buy. To have enough memory for Karaokee and my MP3 files.I had
my hard drive go out on me and Dell replaced it. I had the old one cloned
so I could save my karaoke music I have on Hoister. I have been told that
I have to reinstall Micro studieo & Hoister on my hard drive. Should I wate
untill I get a new External Drive and install the Micro & Hoister on it.
Thank You
Davie Lee

Re: External Hard Drive

You should go ahead and reinstall Hoster and Microstudio on your laptop form what I know. I believe that most people only keep their music on an external drive because it takes up so much space. I would suggest at least a 120 gig hard drive up to 200. Some people even have 2 external hard drives or more. You could have one for your karaoke music and one for your MP3 files. The tech people where I work advised me to only buy either a Western Digital or Seagate hard drive. I'm sure some people on here will disagree with that and may have a Maxtor, which is very commonly sold in stores. I have two Seagate 120 gig external hard drives and am very happy with them. Hope this helps.

Re: External Hard Drive

You have to install the software on the C:\ drive as described by Nitecat, but when you use the Software you can save all of your Data files on the USB hard drive. This way you have the data on the external drive.

I would recommend using the Seagate external drives, as Seagate now has 5 yr warranties on their drives. Most others only have 1 yr some have 3yr warranties, but no other that I am aware of have a 5 yr warranty.

We use Seagate drives now at MTU for all the systems we build, they are also much quieter than the other manufacturers drives.

Re: External Hard Drive

I love my Seagate external hard drives. After looking everywhere for them when I got mine, would you believe they have them at WalMart? You can get an external 120 gig Seagate at WalMart for $149. Glad to hear they are what ADMIN recommends getting.
