Up grading question.

I have the earlier verion of Hoster 3.312 or something like that.
I have been thinking of up-grading to the ver. 4.xxx.

My download time has long since expired.
I have it on Two laptops.

Will the new ver 4.xxx upgrade even if my old version may be corrupted? I don't kow that it is. but I won't be able to download the old version any more because time ran out.

Same question for microstudio will the new upgrade install as long as a version is loaded? In the process of changing computers over the years, I think I didn't get some of the components of Karaoke Suite 4 loaded on one of the computers, can this be copied from the Hard disk and loaded onto the second cmputer and then upgrade to the new Karaoke suite components?

Thanks for any help..

Phil

The only alternative is to buy a new full version 4.

For all the software if you have the previous version installed the Upgrade will install. Whether it works or not should not be a problem as long as you haven't uninstalled it. For some of the programs there is an earlier version available that can be installed to allow the upgrading.
You may run into some cases where the installation will not work. If so you will need to submit a Support Ticket to get those registrations reset.
None of the programs can be copied to the hard drive to work for upgrade or to run.
This is one of the reasons MTU recommends that you save a copy of the Setup files instead of installing by using the "Run."

I really should be in good shape for an up-grade. Hoster will work ok on either laptop. Sometimes they will act a little goofy and I just figured there is something wrong with a file somewhere. For instance one unit has Vista and one has XP pro.
The one with Vista will only let me import one customer CDG track to play and then it will crash on the 2nd try. It does this twice or three times and then it is OK until the next time it is run, then the same thing all over again.

The problem with the other "Suite" programs was that I saved them on an old desk computer which shot craps, then I upgraded to a new desk top unit. It is a 64 bit OS unit with sata drives.. I have the hard drives from the old machine but they are not SATA drives and the new machine is. I can't get into the directory on them when connected into this machine with the ribbon cable..

No real problem though, at least I can get the two notebooks up graded.
For copying disc's, I have GoldenHawk and it has always performed good for me.

Thanks for the advise Dale...

For both machines be sure you do the following changes before you install Hoster.
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/v...de-hoster4.htm
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/xp-changes.htm

For your Vista laptop it needs to have at least 2GB of memory. For XP you need to have 1GB. Both need video with 128MB+ to function best. Unfortunately many lower end laptops use "Shared" memory for video which can cause some problems that may have to be worked out, by stopping some of the unneeded processes that Windows likes to start.

As to the 64 bit OS Microstudio will not work correctly on that machine and I am not sure all the other Suite programs will either.

If you have Hoster 3.321, you will need to order the Upgrade to get a 4.0 Registration Code used to upgrade over your existing installation of 3.321.

Microstudio is the only MTU program that won't run on a 64-bit system. Microsoft totally changed the way optical drives are accessed on Windows [any version] 64.

To admin and Dale. Thanks for the info.

One more question from ADmin..

Both machines work now with 3.321. Minor problem once in awhile (trivial).

When I upgrade to 4.xx on these two, can I transfer to a new computer at a later time without having 3.321 on the new one?

My free download period ran out a couple of years ago for 3.321. I am sure I have the downloaded files somewhere.

Has the manual been re-written to explain this up-grade and transfer procedure?

This is just a hobby with me so I don't really get a lot of experience using it. I don't compete with KJ's, I go to their shows and sing their songs...

Phil, thank you for your questions. You are right on top of concerns MTU has been working on for years... and about to come to reality. I've numbered your questions so I can address each below.

BTW: I'm telling you, Ddouglass our Super Moderator and... the rest of the world. This will be great news to all MTU customers!

1. TRANSFER COMPUTERS: Currently, you need to install 3.321 using its Registration Code, and then 4.xx. However... we are waiting right now for our webmaster to finish a new script that will simplify this greatly.

Lord willing, here's what WILL BE by the end of this month. If you have bought a Hoster upgrade within the past 12 months, your 3.0 RegCode will be able to directly install the 4.xx version. Upgrades will be free for the next 12 months. If we don't put in features you want, don't pay us!

Whether you upgrade or not, you would be able to run your existing Hoster, move it to another computer by removing it and then installing it or a later version on the new computer using your 3.0 RegCode. This will make our security as transparent as I have dreamed of for close to a decade!

Can you tell I'm excited?

2. DOWNLOADS: Phil, you can NOW go to this page and download the latest releases of ALL MTU products. We changed our "delivery method" so anyone can download the latest version... clearly meshing with what I wrote above as we have been working towards this for years!

Now that you can get the latest download Installation program, to install and register it will be a matter of whether you; 1) have any RegCode for that product, and 2) have purchased an upgrade for that product within the past 12 months.

3. INSTRUCTIONS: The current "move" method is described in the new manual. I personally have been working day and night (20hrs/day) for several weeks to have the new manual ready when 4.10 releases. I pray I will be able to include this new install instructions, but we must fully test the script functioning on our test site before it is activated for all our customers at mtu.com.

However... once it is activated we will also have; 1) a FAQ on it, 2) describe it on the Vista, XP and Windows 7 updates instruction pages that you access during installation, 3) our MicroNotes(tm) newsletter will be sent out describing this new flexibility, and 4) MTU.Community members will be talking about it too, and Ddouglass and I will be working together to insure everything is as "simple" as we designed it to be.

4. THANK YOU... for choosing Hoster for your recreational tool. I know you are better prepared for your public performances with Hoster to practice with at Home. Hey, don't forget to have "home karaoke parties" for your friends and family. We have many Hoster users who evolved from home parties, to church or social group parties, to public performances for hire! Who knows where this will lead you....
