Graphics sweeping slow - Fixed by reducing audio card acceleration

I downloaded the most recent upgrade for Hoster 2.213 #3

ever since the download I have had customers complain about the graphics sweeping to slow. I have never had any problems with this on prior releases. I went to Nividia and downloaded the latest drivers and downloaded the directx 9.0c. no changes in the sweep.

The manual covers graphics that sweep too fast but not too slow.

Any suggestions?

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

Flipper,
I have not had any other clients seeing this. What brand of Discs seem to be the ones that are sweeping to slow?

We are working on re-coding the Player code, in the next version 2.214. There have not been any changes to the Player code since version 2.014, I believe.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

I noticed this on Soundchoice and Monster Hits. It seemed that it was on almost every disc though.

I have never had any problems with prior releases of hoster. But the comments from customers started the very day that I downloaded the most recent release. I kinda ignored it because many times it is based upon the number of drinks they have had before they begin singing.

Then the other night a fellow KJ was at one of my gigs and he brought it to my attention. It's about 1 to 2 words behind on the sweep.

I checked it out on most of my songs that I sing and it's definately there.

Flipper,

There is a fix for this for those who encounter it.

Go to the tools tab and click PLAYBACK OFFSET.

You should be able to compensate for the sweep variance there.

Hope this does it for you.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

I have noticed the sweep being too slow also. It's not real bad but is somewhat frustrating. I am experiencing it pretty much on all brands consistently. I did a test and imported the same songs into microstudio and played them back with no problems. The sweeping was perfect, but in hoster it is a little slower. And George, the playback offset only has settings to slow down the sweeping not speed it up.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

The manual depicts a screen shot of the offset with a negative value (which would slow down the lyrics) however trying to enter a negative number results in an error dialog box telling you that you can't do that.

I started a thread on this subject a couple months ago but never got any response.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

I'd never tried to enter a negative value, but remembered the picture in the manual showing it as an entry...sorry about that.

You might try reducing the audio hardware accelleration settings, if you haven't already. That could have an effect on the sync.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

George,
Thanks for the reminder about the audio hardware acceleration settings. That had slipped my mind, what little is left. It was at full acceleration so I lowered it one click and now the sweeping is in sync. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

You're more than welcome, and thanks for the feedback. Too often we wind up wondering if the problem has been cured or not.

Must drive support nuts not to get feedback...it's important, whether positive or negative.

Thanks again.

George

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

just an update on my original post:

I have downloaded directx 9.0c, the most current nividia driver available, and I have made numerous adjustments to the hardware acceleration settings. I'm still experiencing slow graphics.

Prior to the 2.213 upgrade I had no sweep problems at all. No other programs have been installed on this computer since the upgrade. But from the very day that I did the upgrade the complaints from my customers began and they have not subsided.

It appears to me that the sweep is 2 words behind sometimes more. Some songs are not affected but there is no pattern to the brand of disc i.e. Some sound choice are fine and others are not etc. I have found no brand that appears better than the other.

Obviously this is frustrating..I'm sure there is an answer. I'm open to any suggestions.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

Well I decided to go back and install a prior hoster version that I downloaded on 7/15/04 to see if that would make any changes. And Bingo!!!!!!

Everything now works perfectly! I checked out all the songs from last nights gig that were sweeping slow that I received negative comments on and they are now sweeping just fine. I checked on 30+ songs just to make sure. No other changes were made other than the installation of the prior version of hoster.

When I check in Hoster to see which version it is it says 2.213 #3. However this could not be because this version was not released until 8/05, and 2.213 was not released until 7/31, and this file was downloaded on 7/15, so it must be 2.212

Anyway problems are solved for now. I will continue to use this version until I can find a fix when using newer releases.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

just when I thought the problem was solved, it's back

after reinstalling an old version everything was working great..the timing was perfect on the sweep. So I shut down the laptop and loaded it in the van to go to my Saturday Nite gig and started my show. The first song out of the gate had the delayed sweep and every singer was commenting on it. After a while they all got use to it and the comments stopped.

I'm beginning to think that this is somehow linked to system settings that go to the defalut setting when my laptop boots up. Just guessing here. I'm becoming fairly confident that it is not the Hoster program that is the problem.

I really don't know where to start.

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

I too am having issues with the words displaying a good second after the music. I did not have this problem before the upgrade to the newest version.

Thumbs up Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

That did the trick!!

I did exactly what you suggested and It worked!

Tried booting computer 4-5 times and it still works great.

It always seems to be the simple stuff that causes us the problems. I wonder if somehow the settings in changed when the newer version of hoster installs?

I'm going to try to reinstall the latest release and see if the settings change.

Did I say Thank You?

Re: Graphics Sweeping too slow

Went back in an reinstalled 2.215 #2 and then rebooted. Then I checked in DxDiag and the settings did not change. Everything now works perfect in the most recent upgrade.

It still remains a mystery why these settings changed

I'm a happy camper!!

Thank you tiggallen
