Dual display problems - Was a bad video card!!!
Hi,
I cannot get dual display to work for the life of me. It is getting very frustrating. I have an ati radeon 9800 pro with 256 megs of ram along with the latest drivers and Win XP Home. I have followed ati's advice on how to do this with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions or something I could troubleshoot? I am connecting through s-video on the video card to rca video on the tv. I use an s-video to rca adaptor between the cables (I have also tried to connect using a modulator from Radio Shack). One thing I noticed but I'm not sure it makes a difference; but the flat panel display is connected via vga not the dvi connector since one was not included with the monitor. In the display properties it shows the monitor as being a crt not a flat panel. I also connected via traditional crt monitor and got the same results. I am at a complete loss and would really appreciate some help. Thanks, T |

Re: Dual display problems!
is the card built by ATI or powered by ATI ? must be built by ATI. also dont use the windows updates for your video card, use manufacturers updates.
i never had any luck with the s-video cards. i swithced to the RCA connection. |

Hi,
I am using an ATI card, not powered by. Also, the drivers were downloaded and installed from ATI's website. Thanks, T |

Re: Dual display problems!
you need a built by ATI card !!!
you would be suprised but a cheaper card (built by ATI) works just as good. i bought i high end ATI card and had to return it and bought the cheaper one with only an RCA out and it works great. you have to remember we are not watching a DVD here, its just rolling text on a screen. ![]() |

Re: Dual display problems!
this card should work
you say you have a dvi out and a vga out first thing i would do is find a tv that has s viedo on it try hooking it up with no adaptor then you will know if that part works next if that works and you still cant get it to work using the adaptor for s viedo i would get the dvi adaptor and get the converter that takes the vga to a rca out put you can get a good one at www.aitech.com these are great the give you a lot of flex in the things you can do i was never a ati fan but that is just my opinion built by or powerd by dont like eaither by the way is this a desk if it is you have a lot of other cards that you can use but i dont think it is the card i think it is the way you are trying to set it up |

Re: Dual display problems!
Did you get the card working?
If not, right click on the Desktop, Left click Properties. Then click on the Settings Tab. Left click, once, the 2 for the second monitor. Then click the Checkbox stating "Extend my Windows desktop to this monitor". Click Apply, and you should see the monitor come on. If you still have problems, then give ATI a call.

Re: Dual display problems!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies to my question. Through much troubleshooting I have found my problem; a DOA video card. I plugged a new one in and it instantly worked. Just frustrating spending so much time researching this. Thanks All! |

Re: Dual display problems!
Tell me about it. I have these type of issues all the time here at the office, and of course sometimes they get you. When you least expect it, the card can be bad.
