Question MTU Hoster Laptop soundcard and database problems

I have the mtu laptop, the smaller of the ones they were selling, it came preloaded from mtu. its approx 15 months old. the audio output in the back has become very loose, its difficult to get the plug into a position where it will work. Byran said that input plug is connected to the mother board, and I was at risk using it, he suggested I purchase a usb external sound card, so I did, I purchased the creative extigy card, I installed it, it appears to work part time,it seems to have a mind of it's own... it sometimes needs drivers installed, sometimes the switches on the front panel are not set correctly, then other times it will not work no matter what I do, when it is in it's no work mode, as it is today. I tried playing the windows media player it does'nt work either through the card, I'm not real sharp on this stuff, from what I've described here, can you give me any suggestions as to what to try next. The laptop locks up during use, in the middle of shows and it will not unlock....we have to unplug the ac cord and remove the battery to get it up and going again. Also, since purchasing and upgrading the latest Hoster upgrade, whenever I load new discs, the small button (upgrade data base) doesn't work. I have to go to tools and upgrade entire data base...that takes several minutes....otherwise, it goes to a new database entirely and starts with ID number 1.....(I am currently on 987 discs loaded) I did not have this problem until after the new upgrade was installed, since then, I have several problems...these are the worst. I really need help.
