Unhappy cda files

Help!!! I am totally lost. I purchased Keyrite, then purchased MicroStudio when I read that I needed Microstudio to access .cda files from karaoke discs so that I could run them through Keyrite and change the key.

So far, I can't get either programme to do anything except tell me that none of my files are .wav or .cdg (something of which I am well aware). It also tells me that neither my cd-r or dvd drives contain .cdg or .wav files - no, they are .cda!!!

How does one get a .cda file off of a karaoke disc into the hard drive and convert it to .cdg or .wav in order to change the key in Keyrite??? I don't care if the lyrics ever show up again... they're redundant. I am quite happy to use .wav files which I can then burn onto cd's for my use.

Please do not tell me I just wasted hours of my time and $$$$US converted to $$$Cdn at an undesireable exchange rate!!!

cda files and what to do

CDA files are instrucion files that tell your cd rom what to do with a music CD or Karaoke CDG disc. These files do NOT contain the audio and are not what you want to use.

Using Microstudio to extract .wav files or .cdg files from a CD or CDG disc to change with keyrite. (Microstudio is compatible on all cd-roms in extracting wav files from cdg discs and depending on your cd-rom can also extract the music as cdg files.)

Put your master disc in the CDR drive.

Select an existing or create a new folder on your Hard Drive where you want to save your processed files. You can save .cdg and .wav files in the same folder, or create different folders for each.

Run Microstudio. Choose the IMPORT TRACKS tab and make sure the CDG button is selected (not the WAV button) to enable importing a Karaoke CDG file with the music and lyrics together. (To import wav, especially if CD-Rom is non-cdg compliant select the wave button)

Click the Detect Drives button to make sure your CDR drive can read and write Karaoke files. If not, you can purchase a CDG certified CDR drive from MTU.

Click the Reading Drives: down arrow at the right of the field and select one of the presented CDR drives that will read/write Karaoke discs that you identified in the step above.

Insert your CDG Karaoke disc in the CDR drive, or you can use an Audio CD disc if you want to key change a music .wav file.

Click the Select Folder button to find a folder you want to store your files into. You can create a new folder by clicking the small icon with the * in it, towards the upper right. When you hold your mouse over it it will display a popup with "Create New Folder". When you have the folder you want, click it to select it, and click the Select button to close this dialog. The Select Folder field will now show this folder.

Click the Read CD Tracks button to read all the tracks on your CDG Karaoke disc. They will appear in the list area below.

Click the square check box beside the track(s) you want to import to select them to import. You must enter a filename beside each selected track before the Import operation will work. Read the manual about using the Auto name function.

Click the Import Selected Tracks button. Microstudio will save each track in your selected folder.

Run Keyrite and change the key of your imported tracks.
Again, if you want to import a .wav audio only file (without lyrics), click the WAV button on the Import Tracks Tab instead of the CDG button. You can even import the music only from a Karaoke CDG disc if you want to write it back to an Audio CD.

Hope this answers your questions on importing .wav and .cdg files and you have many happy times in the future!!

Once you have the files that you want to change on your Hard drive, then open the Keyrite Program.

1) Click the Select Input File button.

2) Under the Open Dialog change the Files of Type to either Wave Files (*.wav) or CDG Files (*.cdg) depending on which type of file you are trying to Keychange. Select your file and click the Open button.

3) Click any of the buttons under Key Change Factor to change to the desired Key. This will start playing the audio from the start of the file. You can click a different key change button while playing and it will continue playing, using the new key change.

4) When you have your selected key for this song, click Stop to end playing. Then click the Select Output File button. I always select my original file and add "keyc", "kc" or "2" to the end of the filename so I know this file is Keychanged. Once you enter your new filename, click the Open button. NOTE: You cannot select the file that is opened without changing the name. Keyrite PREVENTS overwriting the original file you have open now to key change.

5) Next click the Write File button. This will ask you if you wish to create a new file. Click Yes to write your new keychanged song to the file where you selected on your hard drive.

That's all. Your keychanged file is where you saved it, named what you named it.

To write your new keychanged file back to a Karaoke CDG disc (.cdg files only), or an Audio CD disc (.wav files only), run Microstudio again. Click the Custom Assembly Tab and follow the instructions in the manual to add songs to the list to write to a new CD-Recordable disc.

Next, take your new Karaoke disc with your keychanged .cdg songs on it, and perform in public without having to ask your show host to do a keychange for you. Some hosts, don't like the interruptions this causes, so now they should be very happy with you justing asking to play track X, Y or Z on your disc.
