Unhappy Perplexing Plextor Problems

Here's my dilemma . Please share if you have the same problems, or even better, a solution.

I have an AMD k7-600 (plenty of RAM almost 400) and 80 gig HD.
I have microstudio 2.315 and 2.4 upgrade (with KHPRO, VOGONE, and KEYRITE bundle)
I am using a Plextor PX-W1610TA, for burning. (atapi)
I had to uninstall ide board drivers to allow the DMA switched on , on the plextor.
It reads most of my CDG's well, and fast (good copies, strictly for archive of course) but certain CDG's only read intermittently.
I have some Party Pack CDG's which will sometimes read and then not, no matter what aspi , read speed,or other settings I change. certain other program cd's that read in my cdrom, will also not read in the plextor.
It seems once it glitches, and I get the series of 8 flashing lights.
It's just stuck, you almost have to reinstall microstudio to get it going again.
Is this the Plextor? the cdg's?? some settings I've missed??
Has anyone else had , or solved this recurring dilemma?

1. First suggest you go to Plextor Website and make sure you have latest version of their firmware for the Plextor, if not download and install it.
2. Where are you getting these 8 flashing lights?
3. Do you have Direct X version 8.1 or greater installed?

What function are you doing?

Are you trying to Duplicate Disc, or Import Tracks?

Duplicate is very demanding. If there is one song damaged, it can throw the software into an unknown state some times as it tries to re-read.

Import Tracks will import the good tracks and show "ERROR" for a bad track. Then you can add the imported tracks to the Custom Assembly Tab (one button click at the Import Tab bottom). Sometimes retrying to import a bad track can bring it in. Make sure your disc is clean (read the instructions in the Microstudio manual on cleaning).

Plextor still a problem

All good suggestions but I tried the latest firmware
and direct x 7, 8 and 9

and it wouldn't even read the disc on insert, into the play disc
area of microstudio, never mind copying it.

the thing is I got it to read a couple times, played fine, then the 8 blinks on the drive light if I ejected and re-inserted and poof
gone it now won't read.

it's very mysterious.
I'm ready to throw away the plextor and start over

ctcomedy........

What is the manufacturer and disc number you are trying to copy?

1. Maybe multisession or
2. Media Cloq copy protected.

It sounds to me that you have a problem with the Drive. Please give Plextors website a look here: http://www.plextor.com/english/suppo...ink_atapi.html

This is a link to the Blink Codes for the drive. Here is the Tech Support number to give them a call also. They should beable to walk you through some tests. Toll Free (US/Canada): 1.800.886.3935
