Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

I've been having this problem for quite some time (a couple of years at least), but it's becoming more of an issue now that I'm buying more and more songs online. These files, HDBIN, HDMP3, and HDVID I can't preview in the search window. Occasionally, it will play after a long wait, sometimes 10 or more minutes later. However, it doesn't always. HDMP3 files are indexed as KMA, not sure how the HDBIN are indexed, but HDVID are KMH.

I am experiencing this on both computers listed in my sig. I have upgraded my codec pack, swapped the playlist and search audio cards settings, checked all my microsoft updates, checked all windows 7 specific settings...I've searched the forums here, but haven't found a fix.

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

Doing some testing on my laptop, I've clicked a number of (HDMP3) songs to preview, none of them seemed to work, however several minutes later one of them played. I switched back over to hoster (I was searching the forum here for ideas) I was able to click stop in the preview window, and the song stopped like it should. Then another several minutes went by and another started playing. Again I clicked stop. Several minutes, another played. This happened for at least 6 songs. I'm not sure if all of the files I clicked played, but I think they did.

I'm going to try my other computer to see if I can recreate this.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

Well, I couldn't recreate exactly. After selecting a bunch of songs to preview, none of which played, I closed Hoster. After closing Hoster, Windows proceeded to play a bunch of error 'dings.' One for each song I tried to preview. Very strange indeed.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

Which version of Hoster are you using ?
Version 5.20 did correct some errors from earlier versions but I can confirm that HDVID do not preview. I will point out that to support as in their list of changes Item 10, it does states:
"NEW - Preview ANY Song - In the Search dialog window, if you have NO songs selected in the list, you can now click the Play button to select any file on your system. When you click the button, an Open File dialog window will appear, allowing you to select any .kma, .kmh, .mp3, .wma or .zip file for Preview Play. Just as before, if you select a song from the list, that one will be chosen for Preview Play. If you select more than one, the Play button will be disabled (greyed-out)."

When previewing HDZIP, HDMP3G there can be a pause before you hear the music depending on the amount of silence that is in the file until the credits screen passes but that is not normally not more than about 15 seconds.
HDAUD types usually play right away as there is no intro screen related to them. As to HDBIN files I don't have any of that type imported myself so can't test those.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

Currently using 5.20.02 but it has been happening for many versions. In doing some research here. I'm wondering if it goes back somehow to 4.02 where that version autoconverted HDZIP files... If basically have just been living with it as it has only been a minor inconvenience, but now I'm purchasing the majority of my songs online so it's becoming more of an issue. I'm not sure if it's my computers or possibly a problem in Hoster itself.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

I know that in your first post you said you swapped the playlist and audio cards but still wonder if it has something to do with your audio card set up.

One thing to check before starting Hoster is that the card you have selected in Hoster for your playlist audio card is set as the default audio device in Windows Playback Audio as shown in my attachment 1.

My own setup that works alright apart from HDVID types that don't play, In the Tools Menu/Audio Controls I have selected my on board sound card (Realtech High definition) as the playlist audio card, then check again from the Manage Audio Cards that the playback card is the Default playback card.
Then my USB card is used as the search audio card with the headphone out.
So check yours is set this way first.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

None of my video files display on the preview nor host screens, only the singer screen.

Re: Unable to preview HDMP3, HDBIN, HDVID

I am talking about previewing songs with headphones. All of my CDCDG files preview over the headphones fine. The others don't. (Well, they may, only many minutes later)
