Hoster skipping

Hi guys. I have found a few threads on this but I am stuck. Just before Xmas I bought a new laptop with Windows 7, 4gig Ram & 500gig hard drive space. I upgraded to Hoster 4.11 & absolutely love it. It was a nice upgrade from 3.3. The only problem I have is... once or twice a night it skips half a beat. I am pretty sure I did everything that Hoster told me I needed to do to ensure I don't have any issues (but I might have missed something). I went through the black viper site as suggested & took off a few of the non essentials but I obviously stuffed that up as well as when I bring up Hoster now there is a 'script error' on the front page & it appears to jump even worse.

Unlike what is suggested I do have all of my songs on the C drive & have a hard drive as a backup but the songs only take up 100gig & the hard drive is 500gig so I am thinking this shouldn't be the problem. I also uninstalled Nortons as I know this can sometimes take up a bit of space.

Two questions - can somebody tell me what I shouldn't have taken off so that I don't get the 'script error' & also what they suggest I need to take off to stop the skipping.

Go back to black viper and turn on one item at a time that you turned off if it doesn't fix the problem then move to the next one and try it. They do state that turning off some of these items may cause a problem and if so turn it back on.
It really doesn't matter how much space on the internal drive that the songs take up. What does matter is the total space used on the drive vs free (unused) space on the drive. A minimum of 25% should remain free in order for Windows and programs are able to operate without any delay. Defragmenting periodically helps too.
Laptops, due to using shared memory (RAM) for video seem to have the most problems with skipping and other problems. From what I have seen in here too it doesn't seem to matter how much memory or what operating speed. To get one that doesn't used share memory for video you are looking at well over $1000 price tags.

Thanks Dale
Makes perfect sense - I quickly found the 'script' problem but am gigging tonight so will double check. Out of the 500gig hard drive I still have 350gig free so well in excess of the 25% required - we only use this laptop for hoster.
Are you saying that even if I was using an external hard drive & have all this extra space & RAM etc... I will still experience skipping and there is nothing I can do? Is everybody else that uses a laptop having the same problems?? or just an elite few of us...

It varies from computer to computer and no one has pinpointed any one thing to fix it. Not everyone is getting this problem, but may see other problems associated with it. Only thing we can figure out seems to be because of the sharing of memory for the video instead of having dedicated memory separate from the main.
Just wondering are you using the Background Audio and or Visualizations? If so try running without them for a show and see if that helps.

Not yet. I haven't quite got my head around all of that. Just running the basic Hoster program.

Re: Hoster skipping

I've been having quite a struggle with my hoster skipping as well. I upgraded, made sure I had 25% on my external and I have almost 75% available on my laptop! It is kind of embarrassing. I don't know how to fix this problem.

Re: Hoster skipping

I don't know if this can help but check these settings on the hard drives,
Right click on a hard drive and select properties then click Hardware tab Select your hard drive again from this list then properties again then select the Policies tab, in the window that opens are some radio buttons.
If yours is set for quick removal try the one for better performance but remember you will have to use the safe to remove icon on the taskbar if unplugging while still powered up.
If this doesn't help you can always return the setting to how they were.
