Disk Not Ready
I purchased an MTU Notebook in August, which has worked great. I imported some CDGs right away. Then recently I installed the 4.11 update and tried to import CDGS and I get "disk not ready" error. Hoster can read the properties of the CDGS (can get the Brand & disk ID and see how many tracks are on it), but when I click 'import' I get 'not ready'. Media player can play the audio tracks. I don't know if this is an issue in 4.11, an OS update from Microsoft, or a combination. Anyone seen this?
Note: I have not changed any configuration settings since receiving the Notebook. I also updated and imported CDGs on my XP desktop prior to updating the Notebook. I can still import CDGs on my desktop. Possibly 4.11 has instructions to change some settings, but since I didn't have to on my desktop I didn't on my Notebook. |

Have you kept up with the Custom Updates from Microsoft? Have you done any of the Hardware updates from Microsoft? When Hoster looks up a disc it looks for the disc number (not the same as the DiscID) which is located in one single sector that is outside the normal data area of a disc. Then it searches the databases for that disc. If it finds it then it fills in the track information. None of this is coming from the disc except the disc number. When you hit import then it tries to read the disc Table of Contents to find the start and end point of the track, finds the track and imports it. So, the problem could be one of several things. Dirty, scratched or warped disc would be the first thing I would check. Depending on the environment the laptop is used in the drive may have gotten some dust in it. To clean this use a drive cleaner disc.

Thanks for the good information.
I have not changed any of the update settings originally set my MTU. I have let automatic updates install according to those settings. The discs are new and are readable by my desktop. I have also tried several discs including ones that I have already imported. The Notebook (& drive) are new since August and have been kept in a clean environment. I am utterly baffled. |

I forgot to mention to not do the Hardware updates through Microsoft. Half the time they are not the right ones for your computer. Best bet for those are the computer manufacturer. In the case of the MTU computer, look on the bottom to find out who made it and what model it is.
Also, try removing the drive from the computer. You do this by right clicking on "My Computer" and go to the Properties. Then go to the Hardware tab abd click on Device Manager. Find the DVD drive, right click on it and remove it. Then reboot the computer. This will find it and re-install it again. Don't know if this will work but it might get it going again.

Reinstalling the drive is a good idea. I'll give it a go.
MTU installed everything so I assume the update configuration is correct and excludes hardware updates. By posting here I was hoping someone had information such as "the manufacturer has a hardware update to address a software change Micrsosoft did", but apparently the problem isn't that simple. I am reluctant to start changing things on my own as 'shot in the dark' attempts to fix it as everything should already be correct and such attempts will likely only break other things. Ah well. |

Since you bought it in August then yes everything was up dated to that time, however this is December and Microsoft is good at putting out updates weekly. This is not something you do once and forget. Automatic updates only install those that are critical security updates and does not do any others.
