Hoster 4.11 and Win7 - Video included
Did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and installed drivers and such. Got the new Hoster v4.11 and this is what happens.
http://www.uwpltd.com/HOSTER411VID/Hoster1.html Hoster seems to work fine. Music plays fine. But as you can tell from video graphics are jacked up. The video card is a Geforce 8800 with latest Win7 drivers. So is this a Win7 thing? I tried a SUNFLY, and two CHARTBUSTER songs in the video.

First make sure you have gone through this checklist and done the steps on it that you can. Obviously not everything will be the same between Vista and Windows 7 but the latter is based on Vista so most of the same things would apply. I know it was tested by MTU and a couple Beta Testers on Windows 7 but I don't believe any of them were using 64 bit so you may be in uncharted water.

Dale is correct, you must make all the Vista changes that apply to what you will be doing. Windows 7 requires these.
It looks to me like your graphics driver is not ready for release. The fact it is finally" drawing the ChartBuster logo, says we are feeding the "rendered" graphics to it, but it's struggling for some reason. I'd go back to Nvidia and report it to them. I expect they too may be running the race to get things finished for the real Windows 7 rollout on Oct 22. Please post back here what you find. We want to be sure it is not Hoster. If so, we'll have to get a 64-bit W7 system up for testing to find the problem. |

I have just built a new computer, and installed win7 64 bit. I did none of the vista changes, I used all of the default windows 7 64 bit drivers that installed with the system. I did not use the nvidea drivers for win 7. Hoster works perfect with this installation.
I had 2 identical machines built by a "computer shop" which I am sure they Installed with the drivers that came with the board, and the drivers that came with the nvidea card. it is doing the same as yours is doing. I plan to reinstall win 7 with the included win7 drivers on the windows disk, and I'll betcha it works fine.

I will try that too. This is a new install of Win7 and it detected all the hardware from the install. I put the drivers on it from Nvidia's site.
I will re-install and see what it does without the Nvidia drivers. Should be interesting to see if it works. Dale I did try the tweaks for Vista and it did the same.

Can't hurt and may save other problems you haven't seen yet. I was not aware of the driver issue with manufacturer's drivers. I guess Microsoft gets one right once in a while.

I couldn't see the video since it apparently was taken down but is this a discussion about windows 7 and people who tried to use the nvidea drivers from nvidea's site? After installing windows 7, one of the updates was the graphics card driver for my 8900 card from nvidea. After installing this driver, when playing a kma file, all I got was blobs of black where the lyrics should be on the screen. After uninstalling the nvidea driver and reverting back to the one in windows 7 from microsoft corp, my display on the singer's monitor is good, however, the small display in the upper left corner on my computer monitor is still messed up. I'm running windows 7 32 bit version. All the vista tweeks were done.

I did remove the video clip from my server. That was the problem I was having as well. I was getting black blocks most of the time where the words were suppose to be.
I fixed my problem and I apologize for not posting the fix I did sooner. I did not have to re-install Windows 7 either. It was the updated Nvidia driver for my 8800GT video card. I went back to the legacy Windows 7 driver that was installed in the initial installation of Windows 7 and all is fine. I did not use the system restore, I went into Device Manager and clicked the video card and selected update driver and picked allow me to choose driver, select from list and it showed my current driver, an older Nvidia driver from which I upgraded and the original Windows 7 driver. Selected the original driver and when it completed installing, hoster showed graphics correctly instead of the black blocks. It is exactly what gduns said it was earlier in this topic. I didn't do any of the vista tweaks in Windows 7 and have had no problems. YMMV.

It is showing black blotches and graphics over graphics but the singer's monitor is perfect. If I use the latest driver from nvidea's site, both screens are unreadable.

Not sure it will help, but it can't hurt - re-install Hoster. Vista and I am guessing Windows 7 tend to setup things individually for each program, so this should clear them to use the correct settings.

I did not say you had Vista. I said they both do these things the same way. Windows 7 is based on the Vista core program just as XP is based from Windows 2000 and Windows 98 is based from Windows 95.
If I remember a while back Madjim had a problem with the Nvidia video card and had to try several different version of drivers before he found one that would work right.

Dale, you are correct about trying different nvidea drivers. I didn't experiment with older drivers yet, but my video dj software is virtual dj and to get video to work flawlessly on the display I had to use driver 163.something which was over a year old. Any of their more current drivers gave display issues. I don't know why nvidea drivers has these issues being that my card is a current card (NVIDEA 9800).
