Thumbs up Title Page Stays On - Video Driver upgrade solved problem

I have ran into 3 songs now (this week) on a new uinstall where the Title Page stays on (no Lyrics), It is just one Laptop. The same songs work on the other laptops.

I changed back from 4.09 to 4.08 & still have this problem whether I use 4.08 or 3.4. Has anybody else seen this? Any suggestions?

Wayne

When you say the title page stays on, do you mean it freezes at that position (no music) or title shows right the way through as the music plays ?

Have you noticed anything in common with these files, are they all the same manufacturer or Type of input IE CDCDG, HDBIN, or any other common factor.

Are these files on an external drive that the other computers use as well or are they stored on the internal C/ drives ?

Is this laptop fully updated and set up to the recommended settings ?

Have you tried re-importing those songs or recopying them from your master set?

Problem with lyrics / Title Page

This is a brand new Compaq laptop, it has all Vista Upgrades.

Although I am not on the forums often, I am not a rookie. I have used Hoster since it was first made available.

I made all of the set up changes MTU recommends on the website for Vista machines. The music does play & I have played with this a little more & found that if I let it play long enough it will speed flash the lyrics to catch up at some point in the song.

All of the songs so far are Star Disc SD147, SD151 & SD161. I am not sure if the the version of Hoster I imported them on (back then) had a problem, but these same songs (copies of the same imported files - not re-imported) play fine on every other laptop I have tried.

Not all Star Disc discs have this problem. Maybe tomorrow I will have some time to see whether all songs on every disc from SD147 to SD161 are bad, if so I will try to import one on this laptop & see what happens...Wayne

Wayne,
Most of the problems with video on laptops these days is that the video card uses shared memory. In other words it is borrowing Ram from the main memory. There is a site that has a lot of good tips on background processes you can turn off that will help free up some more memory. This is the site: http://www.blackviper.com.
How much memory does this laptop have?
And are your other laptops Vista or XP?

Just a thought, have you got a different virus checker on this new computer ?
Try running the same songs with it switched off.

Angry Too Wierd...

I figured out which disks have a problem, but, have not solved my problem. This is obviously related to a combination of this paricular laptop's settings and the change Star Disc did to remove the STAR and put an A in it's place in the Title (in mid 2006). The problem starts with Country Disk # SD462 & the Pop Disk # SD4607 & every Star Disc since then. This coincides with the Change in their Name on the Title Page.

These songs play fine on every other computer I have (3 of them are on Vista). I tried to reimport SD462 on this computer, but, it told me it was already imported so I didn't go to the trouble fo deleting it, but I did import one song (as if a singer had brought the disc to a show) and it still has the same problem as the version on the laptop.

To refine what the problem actually is; the Title Page stays on for a Looong time & then fades dimmer & dimmer & then the words come up really fast & it ultimately catches up...

The Laptop is a COMPAQ Presario CQ60 Notebook. It has 2GB Ram, a 32 bit processer, which is the AMD Dual-Core QL-62 2.00GZ

I have searched for title page problems & haven't found anything helpful (and have updated the computer with all upgrades available & verified/made all the changes MTU recommends for Vista).

This problems may have happened to others 3 years ago, I am hoping someone can remember it...Wayne

It is amazing that no one else has ran into this problem. This is every Star Disc after they changed their front page by replacing the STAR in their name with an A.

I have several computers & this COMPAQ Is the only one that has this problem. I am guessing that it may be the video card because I have uninstalled everything it doesn't need to run.

Does anyone else have a NVIDIS GeForce 8200M G Video card in a Laptop?

I am about ready to just sell this laptop & start over...Wayne

Problem Resolved

I searched this forum for using looking for NVIDIA 8200 & found a post from July for a similar problem (although his problem was sporatic - I figured out exactly which disks were causing mine).

He went to NVIDIA's site & downloaded an upgraded driver (which I never thought of since I thought it was a new Laptop). The new driver appears to have solved my problem....Wayne

Wayne, I'm glad you found the solution.

It is amazing that time after time, we all think "upgrading" the computer FROM MICROSOFT will bring it up to full upgrade level.

NOT SO!

We were discussing this very point about drivers in meeting at MTU this morning. Why can't Microsoft get their OS to a stable state for everyone to use? One of our Beta Testers just had an "Expert Installer" install Windows 7 on 2 computers ( a 32-bit and a 64-bit) and neither worked right. Gary had to solve it himself!

Never assume a "New" computer is up-to-date. This is unfortunately an assumption everyone makes. They are only good for the last updates they added to their installation disks. I just got a brand new Dell Vostro. I had 33 updates to do just from Microsoft. That doesn't count the ones from card manufacturers.
