Problems with cd graphics

I bought an extenal hard drive to house my kma files which I moved from my computer. When the files were on my computer they played great,but now that they're palying from the hard drive I 'm getting drop outs and strange color changes. Any suggestions?

I can't think of an answer myself but it would help others if you can let them know more about your system.
What version of Hoster are you running ?
Are you using XP or Vista?
How much memory have you ?
what size is your C/ drive and how much free space on it ?
What size your new drive and is it a USB2 drive ?
Are your files Zip files.?

These answers may help others solve your problem.

Just to let you know Bryant, I have been using an external mini HD for about a year now with no problems. They usually come with a double usb connector for some reason but my runs OK with just plugging the single one in, the other connector is just for power.

That's what I mean, Roy. some mini's DO NOT have another connector for power. They are powered by the usb port in the computer that they are "usb-plugged" into. And..even worse, if that laptop is a mini-laptop, then the combination has sometimes (but not all) slowed down the lyrics/graphics for me. I think, one time the graphics from my primary "big laptop" was slowed when using a usb-powered hard drive.

If he has any one of the above
1)usb-powerd mini Hard Drive, or...
2) mini-laptop w/8" screen, or...
3)Both

that can do it.

i've been sing those slim design 550 gb hhd and havent had any problems with them, some of those mini drives comes in with 2 usb cables, 1 with just one black cable and the other comes with 2 cables going into one in a red usb insert..the red cable is i think what you used if the power is not good enough on the laptops usb port....

I'm running Windows xp on a Toshiba laptop. I recently added 1 gb of memory which Hoster advised me to when I first installed it. The external drive is a mini drive whcih draws it's power from a usb drive. I've found that some songs play fine from it but others have those dropouts and satrnge color changes I referred to in my ealier post.

Your laptop most likely doesn't have enough power to supply the mini drive correctly which is causing the transfer speed to slow down.
Try copying several song files (say 50 - 100) to a folder on the internal drive. Then rebuild your database using that folder instead of the external drive folder. Then run a test show with it.
If you don't have any problems then it has to be the mini drive. Replace it with one that has its own power supply.
If the problem is still there try then it is something that has changed in the laptop itself.

It may be the power drain as Bryant pointed out in post #5.

I don't know if this would help but you can get USB hubs that you can power with a separate power pack, then plug your external drive into that.

Other than that, just to double check that your files haven't got corrupted make a copy of your mdb file and save it temporary to say your desk top. Then copy a few of the kma files that are showing as garbled back to your c. drive, then rebuild your data base with these few kma files and see if they are still garbled. If they play right then I think you can say that it is the power problem, you may need to get a hard drive with it's own power supply.

You can copy & paste your temporary saved mdb from the desktop back to it's original place and not have to rebuild the data base.

i have 4 of those 500g mini drives and all of them came with a 3 cables, 1 in black usb and the other one came with 2 cables going into 1 red usb all the 3 cables are connected, looks like a y cable..
