Conneting to TV

It may sound like a stupid question but how do I connect my Lap Top to a TV to send the picture and sound. Also, how do I connect to my PA system. Thanks in advance for your help.

This depends on a lot of factors.
What is the make and model of your laptop?
For the Video output:
Is your laptop capable of using a second screen?
What kind of secondary output does you laptop have? (S-Video, VGA, HDMI, etc.)
For the Audio output:
Does your laptop have Audio out jacks or just a Headphone Jack?
What kind of input jack does your PA have for Audio in?

These are things you need to know to determine what kind of cables you need and exactly where to hook them to the laptop, TV, and PA. There may be some additional equipment you will need for the video as well depending on your laptop's output.

It's a Dell Inspiron 15. It has 2 USB ports and a female RS232 port. There is no S-Video or RCA ins or outs and 1/8 " audio out and a 1/8 " mic in.
My PA is a Peavy and it has 1/4" cable inputs and RCA inputs.
I don't know about a "Second Screen".

Under Display Setting I have Monitor 1 active and Monitor 2 not active. Should I chose second monitor for dual display?

They also sell all the set up cables and accessories.

15 what? (1525,1526, etc.)? If you let me know what that is then I can look it up on Dell's site and get pictures of the laptop to look for outputs.

Also there has to be some type of output plug on the laptop to send the Secondary Monitor to a TV or full size computer monitor. Are you sure that RS232 isn't actually a VGA output? Without an output of some type this laptop will not be able to hook-up to a TV at all.

This may be a factor in how well this works, but first you have to be able to hook up.

Your audio is no problem. you will need a cable with an 1/8" plug to either a 1/4" plug or to RCA plugs (Left and Right channels. The easiest and best would be the 1/4 plug since you only need one. Be sure that both are Stereo plugs and not Mono.

if your laptop has no s-video most likely your laptop came with just a vga out, you'll need to get a pc to tv converter, you can get this from www.aitech.com, it's called "Maxview pc to tv video converter", their about $70-100, i had one a while back,this comes with a vga ,rca and s-video out, what you'll have to do is connect the vga of the converter to your laptops vga and connect either the s-video or the rca of the converter to your external monitor/tv,someone in the forum suggested a site where you can get a cheaper ($26.00) similar product, i just can't remember the sites name, but it's called "video converter" (LKV 2000 ) i bought one and it does work...i was just wondering why you don't have an s-video,since most Dell laptops has 'em,i have 2 Dell laptops( E1505 & E1405) and bought came with a 7 pin s-video.

Try monoprice.com ( Great Site for cables, converters, adaptors, etc. ) and check out this converter ( it's quite a bit cheaper than what you will find at Bestbuy or Radio Shack ) it's the one I use and find it's compact size and ease of use superior to the Gigaware version offered by Radio Shack, which I tried first!

Rikki was right that was the site i got my converter from www.monoprice.com, make sure you get the KLV 2000 ( video converter )
