Search Preview Hoster 4.09d
I downloaded and installed Hoster 4.09d a few weeks ago. Today is the first time I tried the new search preview feature using two sound cards. I was listening to a song playing in the playlist, searched for a song and selected it then hit the preview button. It worked fine but when I either closed the window or hit stop, I got an error message that said something like Runtime error. So and so has to terminate so and so in an unusual manner, Hoster must close. I shut the computer down and rebooted and tried again. It would not do a preview. I did everything the same but no sound and no preview screen. Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks George P.S. This is the best version of Hoster since 3.4!!!!!!!!! |

I believe this is a Hoster bug. I tried it again and this time, I stopped the song from playing by hitting the red stop button and then closed the window. It worked fine. I then did it again but this time instead of stopping the song first, I closed the window. I got the Hoster shutdown message. The workaround is just to hit the stop button on the preview song before closing the window but I still believe this is a bug. Can anyone duplicate this?

I've had problems with that every once in a while on microstudio that would occur on one computer but no other. If you check your event viewer reports I think you'll find it a problem with either dot net (I can't remember the official name for it) or a dll file. Nothing I tried would make it go away. At some point, after a Windows update session i think, the problem went away on it's own.
I dont have extra soundcards at home but I'll try and check at my gig tomorrow. Sam

In Microstudio you have the ability to choose which sound card you record with (Tools > Record Settings > Select Card). Because I only have one sound card on my test machine, I'm not sure if it changes the output card that Micostudio uses but it seems that it would have to. ![]() ![]() I think what Sam is getting at is he saw the same errors you did while selecting diferent sound cards to record with. Since he mentioned Windows custom updates have you done all of them except for the hardware updates? (On time I did the harware updates from Windows custom updates and it caused my sound card to stop working. I had to use system restore to get it working again.) Jim ![]()

System Cloned on Serial ATA Raid Controler 0 Drive 0 set as IDE 14. Two separate IDE Drives for Hoster/Music files 15. Data drives cloned on two more internal drives. There are a total of 6 drives on this machine. Everything backed up to the max. With 4.09d I'm now able to import to the database from a CDG in approximately 8 minutes. I imported three disks this morning and timed it. (Awesome) I am very happy with 4.09d and I don't need to preview karaoke songs but I just thought I'd pass along what I thought was a bug. I can't believe no one has had this problem. If that is the case and everyone is using it, it must be something in my system but I don't think so. gpayne |

George,
Since you haven't checked the Custom Updates since 4.06 I would suggest you do look at it and add any new ones. The one Sam was referring to that fixed his may help yours. I do have dual cards and will check to see if I can duplicate this. I am not sure I would call this a bug, but I guess you can get in a hurry and cause it to happen if you don't stop the preview before closing. ![]()

I do hesitate to do any updates because it is working perfectly other than this annoyance. I know you guys always say make sure you have all the upates other than hardware from Microsoft. Most of the changes made from 4.06 to 4.09d were fixes. Yes some features were added but does MTU really do updates every day and run their code against them? I don't think there would be that many but I will check them out. I guess I could get the updates then if I have problems, I could start up on my clone drive if a restore did not work. I will wait however to see if you can duplicate this. Sometimes I do get people asking if they can hear a version of a certain song and I just usually wait until I play a regular music song then load the song into Hoster and PFL(Pre fader listen) it from my sound board. The Hoster preview feature would be a lot easier as you can preview while you are playing from the Hoster Playlist. But as I say, I can work around it. Thanks gpayne P.S. It might not be a true bug, but it does shut you down. Although usually whatever database added songs will still be in your playlist, I don't think that songs imported to the playlist from a singers disk will survive a shutdown. It has happened to me on several occasions. This past winter, I was adding singers songs from thier disks and about every fourth song added would make Hoster crash. This could have been because some of those disks were so scratched and Hoster was really laboring to add them, still, when Hoster crashed, I had to re-import the singers disk songs and of course every song that had already been played in my playlist was refreshed. This made it pretty hard to start back up from where I left off. |

Since 4.09 if Hoster crashes and you have singer's disk imports in the playlist they stay now. Only if they are played or you shutdown Hoster correctly will they be erased.
I have duplicated it and the error message was something like instruction at 0x467321 (not the exact number) referenced memory at 0x0000000. Is this what you are getting? No MTU doesn't update every day but there are updates that Microsoft sneeks out on us on occasion (bi-weekly) that may effect Hoster. Hoster uses both Media Player and Internet Explorer functions. MTU does watch along with the beta testers to make sure that any updates that come out don't effect the operation of Hoster but especially updates to those two programs. I am going to report this "bug" on to MTU as they are currently working on a beta for Hoster. Hopefully a quick fix can get into it for this.

It was an easy fix, which will go out this week for Beta Testing, and be released in Hoster 4.10 which we are on full bore right now. Again, great reporting! ![]() |

I was hoping it was becuase I did not want to have to chase down a problem on my system which I felt was really working well. As I said before, this is for me, by far, the best version on Hoster since 3.4. You finally have it pretty well nailed down. I was very skeptical about the import from CDG but when I imported three disks this morning and it took about 8 minutes each, I was estatic. I used the audio and video files feature last week at my show. It worked flawlessly and usually my show starts at around 7:00 PM but I am always set up around noon. This meant that I was running Hoster from around Noon until 11:00 PM. NO CRASHES OR BLIPS WHATSOEVER!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! Thanks so much! gpayne |

Well at least it is fixed. Until it releases you will just have to remember to "Stop" the preview before closing the search.

You were able to duplicate it and that meant alot to me because as I commented to Admin., I did not want to start chasing stuff on a system that's working great otherwise. See ya gpayne |

![]() gpayne, your email registered in the Forums is xxxxx@sbcglobal.net and your Registered email for your Store record is xxxx@comcast.net.
We need to make them the same as part of our anti-spam efforts at MTU. Which email should we make both accounts have? I also need to email you so I need to know which one is active. ![]() Dave |
