2nd display is no longer color
I ran my old laptop the other night for karaoke but instead of using a television for my second screen as I have done before I used a computer moniter and have since been unable to get my television to run in color. The cable and television work fine off my normal laptop so I assume it's a setting somewhere on the old laptop that I can't find?

This is usually a cable mis-match or a bad cable. Is it using S-Video? If so is the cable the same as the connector on the laptop (4 pin or 7 pin)?
There is not a setting on the laptop to make the secondary screen go between color and black & white that I know of.

After checking the cables as Dale suggested you should also check the refresh rate for the TV in your display settings. Most analog TV's are 60 hz or 50 hz depending on where you live. Computer monitors are often different. The refresh rate may have changed to match the monitors requirements and then for some reason didn't change back when you went back to the TV.
Long shot but worth a look. Sam

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies, i've sort of solved it. In the afternoon of working with my old laptop I got everything set up and running with no problems on the tv but last minute in the evening I changed from using the tv to using a moniter instead and had trouble with the color on the tv the next day. The tv with the same lead on my other computer is working fine and also my old laptop with another tv works fine so I've come to the conclusion the it's the tv struggling for some reason with the signal off the old laptop although it used to work fine but I guess something inside the tv must be breaking down with old age! ![]() |
