usb flash drives

i was just going thru my kma files on my show and back-up laptops, and i kinda noticed that, i have some songs that are missing on my back-up laptop, instead of re-importing and going thru all my cd's would be be better to just copy them from show laptop to the flash drives, and just wanted to know the pros and cons of doing this..never tried using flash drives before..

The only con to using flash media is the speed. Most flash drives are slower. The more transferred to or from flash media the more noticeably slower the drive becomes.

Outside of that, I would recommend using an external disk drive, and robocopying the files.

Another alternative is to setup a small workgroup and connect via CAT 5 cable and use a small network hub to transfer files that way. At 100mb or better, file transfers can be much faster.

Billy as long as all you are doing is transfering the files and going to put them on the drive of the laptop, it should be no problem. Using them from a flash drive would be though.

I transfer my new discs from home to the show computer via flash drive all the time. Do the same for your missing discs from one to the other.

Where can you see or order custom built laptop road case, is there a website or catalog I can check out.

My helper dropped my NRV-10 M-Audio mixer the another day and I want to protect my investment and keep my equipment organized.

Can you please post this information.

Thanks

Joe...

Joe,
I used SKB Cases for years, when I wanted organization or custom fit. They are not inexpensive, but they will take the road wear as well as most, and are as light as I've seen for most of us with an "older back".

I now do several smaller trips, with the lightest setup that will put out the best sound, and protect with smaller cases, and don't allow drunk anybody's to help load unless they want to take a monetary interest in my equipment also.LOL I haven't found that kind of "roadie", except my girlfriend, and the bartering for payment is still ongoing after 25years!
