Sigh....... you are right. We had to postpone adding Video files into the Songs Database. Problem was, we need to have a different KMA format that doesn't duplicate the file with our header on it. We actually did it, and then removed it due to the poor performance and HDD space required. We didn't want to go down that path and have a bunch of HDVID files floating around, and then terminate support. We even had all 10 video file types supported that Hoster can play!
The new approach will index video files at several per second, versus minutes per file that it now would take. We will add a "Header file" with the same name as the video file into the same folder. You can use EDIT SONGS command dialog to "edit" the header file just like a KMA file now. Some may not like the "2 files" concept, but we look at how accepted the MP3+G format is today (with 2 files), and we are doing a similar for our Video+Header files.
As you can imagine, with ALL our time going into Hoster and VISTA since last fall, our other products have been falling behind. We are now working on Microstudio 4.10, that will include new IMPORT TRACKS and WRITE DISC (and Dupe Disc) code.
Our goal is to add the Import Tracks support into Hoster to
import VCD and DVD tracks as files, and index them into the Songs Database. This also "should" be able to support importing SCDG disc tracks directly from the SCDG discs. We'll still have to convert their MPG format into MP3+G, but we can do it.
This new direction has just evolved as we had engineering meetings on the Microstudio upgrade, so this is "hot off the press".
We think everyone would appreciate putting your VCD or DVD discs into your Hoster CDROM drive, and import them into the Songs Database? Right? OK!
