hey dale i really dont want to ask this question here but you dont accept PM's, so...

if i edit my songs.mbd through access will it revert back if i rebuild my database ? i dont want ot waste my time if it reverts back.

i dont want to go through the edit in hoster, it will take to long. i need to rename and fix some spelling errors so my songbook will be correct. there are a few mis-spellings.

thanks
B.

Hey Beavis,
I think if you edit in Access you are only editing in Access. When rebuild is done it will read the file headers and change songs.mdb to reflect what file headers read.

I wanted to do this before as Access update queries are very powerful and discovered that edits I made did not reflect in song search or anything else.

Hope this helps
Wally

Beavis, I did a cursory search but couldn't find the thread I was thinking of. I remember something about editing the songs.mdb then opening up the edit songs dialog go to edit multiple, doing a search for * , selecting all then save changes. Don't quote me on this because I can't find the thread. But it would be worth a shot. If you save a copy of your songs.mdb there wouldn't be any harm in trying.

Beavis,
I'm sorry but I've never done this so I just don't know. Don't like to give bad information. I'm lookin forward to Dales response.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I'll say a prayer that the doctors do a good job and you have a speedy recoverey.

The answer is yes it will revert back, because when Hoster rebuilds the database it reads the KMA headers to rebuild from. So your only choice is to use edit in Hoster. Sorry if that isn't what you wanted to hear.

I've been using the edit screen to make changes to songs.mdb permanent for a couple of years now. Never had problems and never had anything revert back.

If you buy microstudio and change edit names of singers or track name in that program it will change header info for you., then rebuild database and it will be right. This is how I do it.

It will revert back. Hoster uses the KMA File header contents to rebuild the Songs Database.

Interesting thought. I tried this. Yes, right clicking you can edit the Title and Artist fields. However the Edit Songs command in Hoster is much faster. You can even play the file, and edit the fields while playing, the click the Play Next button and it auto-saves the changes for your prior file. That way, you can just keep walking down the Search / Found list of KMA files.

Oh yes, using the search section above, and clicking on the column headings can find the files you want, and sort them in whatever order you want. Then the Play and Play Next buttons work down this list.

i kinda felt bored today, so i decided to use the hosters edit button to changed all the unknown files i have , closed to 100 of them, i don't know how they imported like that " unknown " but anyway it went great, i just click on play and typed in titles etc. unfortunately some of the songs i have doesn't list the artist name..

There are a couple of sites on the web where you can look up songs and it will tell you who has released it. I am out of pocket for a while thanks to hurricane Ike or I could list on here that I have used.
