Cool Hoster Demo locks computer

I am having a problem with the demo version of Hoster. I have XP w/SP3 installed on a Compaq laptop. It is an AMD Turion 64 processor ML-34 (1.8 GHz, 512KB L2 cache)

When Hoster opens, I select "import CD tracks" from the "Import Songs" menu. The banner is active on the opening page with the Hoster logo in the center. Sometimes this one click is enough to lock the system requiring a cntrl-alt-del to close the program. Other times, I get to the "import CD tracks page but its too late, the opening page has locked even though the banner is still moving. One time, I got it to look up and list a karaoke CD but it would only convert one song but would not import as that was enough to lock the system.

I would like to purchase this program, and will if I can get it working. I noticed that you do not have a toll free number for on the phone support. I have read the manual, the knowledge base, etc., and would greatly appreciate any support you can give me to get this program purchased and up and running. Thanks,

Hey Steve,

Do you have all of the windows custom updates?

Do you have IE7?

What version of WMP (Window Media Player) are you using?

I just ran Windows updates and installed SP3 and everything else I was behind in. I have IE6. Is IE7 required for this?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think it will work with IE6. I use IE7, it's a better browser in my opinion.

If you still have problems after all of your updates are done, get IE7 and see if it helps.

Be sure to do a system restart before you install the demo.

I un-installed Hoster, re-installed it, and re-booted! Got to the "Import page" and got a print-out of the disk. could not get any song to the "play" page........all I get is a bell when I click on anything.....I assume this is locked up.

Try installing IE7 and see if that helps. It's the only browser I've ever had installed with Hoster 4.0X.

What "Import Page" are you talking about? Tell us each step you have done.
By the way the Hoster video you see at first is part of Hoster's initialization. It is best to wait the couple seconds it requires for this to finish before trying to do anything.

Dale - From the "Marquee" page, I click on the "import songs" and sel "import CD tracks." From the "import CD tracks page" I am sometime getting the program to read the disk but then it seems to lock up and won't do anything.

Do you mean the Main page? The Marquee is the text that scrolls across the top of the Show Display on the TV.
Check to see if the disc drive you are trying to import from is the set default drive (Tools/CDDVD Drives) and that it is capable of reading CDGs. Additionally check the disk itself for scratches and cleanliness. These problems can cause the disc to not read.
You can not add songs to the playlist on the main page directly from this utility. You have to import them with an assigned bookID, then close the import window and add the song to the playlist from the top of the main window by adding one of the bookids and clicking add track.

Yes, the main page. My Plextor external drive will read and play karaoke disks. Will upgrading to IE7 help me as madjim suggests? I have downloaded and re-booted for most of the day and that is a sizable change.

I edited my post to add more.
No IE7 will not help this, though I like it too and do recommend it, but won't help this.

It won't let me do anything......it locks. One or two clicks and thats it! Are there any settings on my laptop that could need changing? It is a fairly new laptop, couple of years old.

I have installed Hoster on my office computer, hooked my Plextor to it and it works like a champ. Trouble is, the laptop is to be used for shows. Can you steer me in changing whatever I need to do to my computer so this program will run?

Dale and Madjim,

Thanks for the help, I went to the COMPAQ site and downloaded a new graphics driver and that apparently fixed the problem. May want to add this to the knowledge base. Sure was crazy for a while.

Steve.
I can't thank you enough, CRAZY is the best word to discribe the whole Windows\Microsoft thing. We tell everybody to custom update Windows and to get the latest drivers for your video card. I'm sorry this information didn't get to you sooner.

Glad you can now enjoy Hoster 4's new features. What a blessing!

Jim
