Where did my songs go

I installed Hoster 4.02. Had to rebuild song data base. I have over 20,000 songs but Hoster now says I only have 1658 songs, What the heck happened to the rest of my kma files. Do I have to reload all of my CDG and Zip files again?? That would suck. I may have to run only old version of hoster. By the way... I have that piece of crap VISTA.

Are all your files located in one folder or multiple locations?
Have you looked on your disk drives where they are located and checked to see if all the files are there?

Yes, all of my files are on one drive and ALL are still there. If I unload everythig hoster from my computer and reload 3.321 everything is fine. Loads song database fine. Will not show all of my KMA files in new 4.01 or 4.02. I wolud like to know is there is anyway to start the conversion process again. It errored the only time it ran

Did you try rebuilding the database?
You say you couldn't get Hoster to stop that error. When you click OK it should move on to the next record (song). If the error comes up again then that means that the next song is not converting correctly.

Yes I tried to rebuild the database and the error kept coming up for the same song over and over. I found tonight that I can access the songs by going to the K-oke key, but that is not a good process to run, only book ID shows, Would not be able to search by song, artist ect. Everything shows and works fine in Microstudio. I just seem to have the worst luck. I could not think of running shows with out Hoster. I,m just going to use 3.21 or what ever the number was until someone tells me how to fix this. 4.02 has some great features but old Hoster is great also.

When you first opened 4.02 did Hoster run the conversion program to change your zip files to MP3+G? If so did you get any error messages with it?
What is the error message you are getting when you rebuild the database?

Yes the conversion program was running when I got the error message about bad zip file. Everytime I clicked on yes or continue (can't remember which it was) it went back to the same song over and over. Would not continue. I had to shut down my computer to get out of it. Is there any way to start conversion program again?

It should be trying to run everytime you open Hoster since it didn't complete. Are the majority of your songs zip files?
Are you absolutely sure it went back to the same song because when you click ok it should continue on with the next one and continue until it runs into another error or finishes?
What you are going to need to do is figure out which song that it errored on and move or delete that file. if it is only one, then it should fix the rebuild.
I am not sure how to restart the conversion, but I will try to find out and let you know.
What was the error message you got with the conversion? With Rebuild?

Ok, I move all the songs that were converted (1658) then loaded hoster again, coversion started, after about 400 files error message says ' file not found' but it is there. if i move the file, delete old location, then move it back. it continues to next song, this is the same problem I began with. Most of my kma's are from cdg discs. If I click on OK or CANCEL, it just stays on that file. Right now I have conversion on hold until I get every file moved, deleted for old location, moved again, then I will continue conversion. This move process is taking 2.5 hours each way. And I'm not sure this is going to work until conversion ends and I see how many songs I have. Once again, I HATE VISTA. Thanks for all info you can get for me. Jack

These are not done in alphabetical order but in record order from your songs database file. That means you moved files that had not been processed and now it can't find them.

I moved the 1658 songs that converted correctly (I know which ones they were by date modified) then moved the rest to another folder, deleted old folder, then moved them back. Started Hoster and it started to update files again. So far it is about a third done. When all is complete I hope I didn't do as your quote says, 'If it ain't broke, fix it until it is' I will let you know when this is compleye what happened. Again, Thank you for your input. You really seem to know your stuff. Are you a beta tester for MTU? and if you are how do you become one. I need to add quote to my profile. 'I love Hoster program, Have I told you lately how much I hate VISTA'

Yes I am a Beta Tester but I have also been an IT tech for 40 years. It helps to know your equipment at least as much as Microsoft lets you.
Admin picks the beta testers there is no way to apply for it.

I don't have 40 years but I worked for Frigidaire for 17 years, 5 as a programmer. I know my way around a computer but Vista is a OS from heck. Almost done converting file. Keep fingers crossed.

Please some one help me

please some one help me

I can play my files in Microstudio but not in Hoster 4.1 any more.

I installed Hoster 4.2 and had to reinstall 4.1 because 4.2 was not playing a lot of my song files. (no I didn't get any error mesg. at conversion)

Now it seens that 4.2 files are still there and is preventing 4.1 from running like before with no problems using the same files as before.

I rebuilt Song database and then used access to fix the database of my songs since a lot of files have spaces before the name & disc field and other problems.

Then I completed that fix and moved song database back to the folder.

When I started Hosters 4.1 it just started rebuilding the database I just fixed before hoster started again and retuned me to the mess I was trying to fix.

I have a Xp computer.

What Is going on here are we not allowed to touch or fix the database any more?

And why Hoster 4.1 not able to play my songs but Microstudio can?

Joe...

Joe, I had pretty much the same problem, I had to move all of my KMA,s to a new folder, Delete everything in old folder, move everything back to original folder. Then I had to start 4.02. This rebuilt my song data base and reran conversion. problem went away. This process (because of 22,000 + songs) took about 6 hrs. I have Vista. Everything is working great now. Read through this post 'Where did my songs go' You don't have to wait for 4.03

Jack - I converted 37,000 kma files on both XP & Vista PCs.
The vast majority were HDZIP.
I got a Bad Zip error message for approx 30 of them. I noted the disc ID and (on one PC), deleted them using Edit Songs.
I haven't removed them from my other PC just yet but know that if I try to play any one of them Hoster will just skip over them and play the next good song in the playlist.

I'm pleased to see that you finally got yours all converted and can't understand why you experienced the problem you did.
I know Vista is a hunk of sh.... but I didn't have a problem with it regarding the zip conversion.
