Questions BEFORE installing 4.0?

I hate to ask questions so soon.......... but since my Backup is XP and I usually use Vista on stage:

1) It says 3.4 included with 4.0 can run on Vista. What does that mean?

2) If I use my old XP laptop while waiting for Vista version, can files we create like the Singers database be transferred to my Vista laptop, or will we need to start all over?

3) If I read it correctly - 4.0 can only import Audio? 4.1 will be able to import Video?

Never a problem.

3.40 is 3.321 - I suggest you create a shortcut on your desktop for 3.40. If you have any problems with 4.0, open 3.40 and carry on. If 4.0 won't run on your version of Vista, use 3.40 until 4.10 is released.

Any changes you make to Hoster will transfer to the upgrades that are coming. The only way you would have to start over is if you manualy delete any files. If you have to delete any files be sure to make a back-up and put the back after the issue has been addressed, this will keep you straight.

Again, you will not be able to import video in 4.0, this feature is sceduled to be in the next release.

I Hope This Helps

I understand that is the way to do it on my XP laptop. I was wondering - since it says 3.4 is Vista compatible, but 4.0 is NOT, how can I use 3.4 on my Vista laptop? But, if it is just 3.321 ..... I already have 3.321 on my Vista laptop. I just wondered why it was worded that way, if 4.0 cannot be installed on Vista yet

Just to be clear ........ any files that I create with 4.0 on my XP laptop -will I be able to copy & paste onto my Vista laptop once 4.1 is available for installation on Vista???

Jim, THANKS for helping!

I don't use Vista but it appears that Hoster 4.0 intstalls on Vista with no problem, it just has problems running. MTU has solved these problems so Hoster 4.1x will RUN on Vista.

Again I don't use Vista. As long as Vista doesn't prevent this, you are correct!

Maybe ADMIN will answer these questions when they have time!

I assume they are already busy with 4.1 since some of the features were not included with 4.0 as expected. (like importing Video files - besides the Singers database, this is what I've been waiting for since they thought it would be ready on May 30th, so that I can re-do my songbooks with ALL MY SONGS!!! Guess I'll have to continue waiting!!!!!

4.0 will download & install on Vista, it just won't run correctly yet (close). 3.4 is basically 3.321 with the 4.0 registration codes so you can be ready when 4.1 is Vista compliant - plus it's a built in backup backup for 4.0 if a bug does arise.

Sounds like I need to wait for 4.1, No sense installing 4.0 on Vista and creating more problems!!!!!

Guess I could practice with 4.0 by installing on my XP laptop!
But I don't think I want to bother creating Singers lists if they can't be "copied & pasted" onto my Vista laptop when it's ready

Hoster 3.4 executable file is included in the install of 4.0. If you look in the program folder for Hoster you will find Hoster.exe (version 4.0) and Hoster34.exe (version 3.4). If 4.0 fails or has problems (as in with Vista) just open Hoster3.4 and continue your show.
You singers database as well as any kma files you build in one will work in all, just like they already do.

Go ahead and install it on your Vista too. You can use the 3.4 until the free 4.1 upgrade is ready. It just won't have all the new cool tools that are added to 4.0, but at least you can function with it.

I'm sorry if my answers didn't help you but I don't feel compfortable answering questions concernig and operating system that I haven't tested, I didn't want to leave you hanging.

The singer database will be saved and can be moved just like any file that Hoster creates and it will work on another computer, I've done it on XP. The beta for 4.10 was just made available to the beta testers so it's release isn't far off, if you choose to wait. I would upgrade and get comfotable working the new features.

Jim, You didn't really leave me hanging. I understood you couldn't answer specific questions about Vista. You've had plenty of good suggestions taht I have put to use!

If 3.4 is the same as 3.321, why put 4.0 on Vista if there could be problems? I already have 3.321 on it.

It's all good. Here is my thinking on your situation.

Your going to (or have) bought 4.0 and will put it on your XP machine. Since Hoster 4 is still in development, it may run on your Vista machine but we won't know this if you don't install 4.0 (on your Vista machine). You may find something that will help MTU get 4.10 out.

The way I see it you have nothing to loose by installing 4.0 on your Vista machine. As Lonnie and Dale have pointed out, if 4.0 fails in any way just open 3.40 and carry on.

Of course the final decision is yours.

Just trying to help.

Jim

Just like in moving playlist files, this is true ONLY if the path for Hoster to find the KMA file is the same in both computers.

Got it

I fooled around with the singer button for a lil bit, and finally figured it out. Sometimes it takes me a couple tries to get things going haha! BUT MAN!!! I'm lovin' that button for sure, that's so gonna make my shows for all my drunks smoother! Yknow, like when they all come at you at once, and say "Oh just throw some of my songs in there, you know what I sing". YEA, I do 4 shows a week I'm supposed to remember what they sing haha. But they are gonna love this! Great job admins!!

After reading 7 new posts this morning about problems with 4.0, I've decided to wait a little longer to install & keep reading how everyone else solves their problems. I'm anxious to test the features, but I just don't have that kind of time "to lose" right now!
