![]() Just got Hoster Lite everything is going well. I started into my collection and began importing tracks the other day.
After 792 songs were imported (4.17GB) to C:\KMA Files , the import program gave me an "out of memory" error. Well, the laptop is new and has plenty of memory on the C: drive (200 GB) so I thought maybe Windows places some kind of limit to the folder size (not likely, but my thought at the time). So I created c:\KMA Files 2 folder to write the imported KMAs to and it works fine (then when I rebuilt song database I just included this new folder in the drive path). So, it works just fine now, but I thought it was a little unusual. Anyone else get that message upon import? (By the way, I plan to use an external USB drive to store KMAs once I make the first pass through all my music) |

......more info
Hey Beavis, thanks for the response.
I did in fact re-start the computer just to see if that would help. I tried to download to the original \KMA files folder (with the 792 files on it at 4.15GB) and I got the same message (Little "Hoster" window pops up with "err out of memory"). I suspected that possibly my laptop was configured for FAT32 file system (I thought maybe there used to be some kind of 4GB limit issue??) At any rate, disk is configured NTFS. So, after that is when I made my 2nd folder \KMA files2 and that seems to be doing the trick. I am able to see, search, play all songs etc. I currently have 792 files (4.15GB) in folder :\KMA files and I also have 459 files (2.15 GB ) and counting in folder :\KMA files 2. When I re-build database, Hoster sees all 1259 files and works perfectly. I figure when I get to 600 or so files on :\KMA files 2, I will just create :\KMA files3 and keep going. system Dell M6300 laptop Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X7900 @ 2.80GHz 4GB RAM XP Pro |

Start copying kma files to the outboard hard drive now. Best to back up all that work. The outboard won't be read until your done anyway.
Your ram may be the culprit. Shut down anything not being used. Delete programs you won't use, delete all unecessary sample files like the pics, videos, music ect, you get with the pc.

I don't think I've seen the 4gb issue since Windows 98.
Sounds to me to be more than an update issue. I think somethings not configured right. You might check Window help at microsoft.com and see if you can find some info there. Why would you put 2002 on a brand new laptop?? Sam |

will do....since th laptop is new ; I figured "what are the chances?"
BUT, I have seen laptops crash in the first week of owning...so I will take your advice since it is a bit of work to get those darn things loaded as KMAs! Good advice......Thank you |

Server versions of Windows do funny things especially with memory allocation. Best bet would look for a copy of XP and install it instead.

![]() There is no Server 2002, there is a server 2003, but you shouldn't be running a server os on a laptop.
Windows 2000 desktop, would have some problems with partitioning and Disk drive size limitations. but that should not be causing the problems mentioned. Hoster 3.21 will work with W2K workstations ![]()

![]() I sure do appreciate all the help from people. This appears to be a pretty good community. This is my first experience with Hoster and I would have to say I am fairly happy with it. The minor inconvenience of placing KMA files into a couple of different folders no larger than 4GB each does not seem to bother Hoster (or me). I almost don't want to put any service patches on the PC ;-). Actually, I will upgrade sometime soon. Haven't had time as computer has been making KMAs!
Anyway, I really do appreciate you all helping out. I have backed all KMA files (I only have about 2,000) total...so it is not a huge deal like some of the pros out on the board. I have the KMAs backed up on additional external drive. I have been running Hoster for a few days now and haven't had a hiccup. All graphics are coming in nice and clean, sound and video are synced, looks like a pretty slick package. I hooked the computer up to my mixer, piped audio over to the 1500 AMP and through the Yorky 150s. It sounded wonderful and graphics are very clean on the external video display. I just do family stuff, got a couple rehearsal dinner parties; one a for niece and one for a nephew getting married in late summer. I started offering to do this for one of my nephews last year; now all of them want to do it (and we have a large family!) but they have so much fun with it , I cannot refuse, especially if they put a 6-pack in front of me. This will be so much more enjoyable not having to search for discs etc. |

Now you need to start ripping some dj audio for the total package.
